Maintenance Mechanic (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYFebruary 2, 2018
culture is cutthroat, and management seems to foster it. dept. managers are set one against the other. firing people for minor disputes is rampant shift work and 12 hour days are stressful. poor balance of homelife and Guardian, with work always taking priority

They believe in Guiding principles which they do not follow themselves, promises things and change their mind, they do not care about their employees, just money. As an employee you are just a dollar sign and a slave

Shift Manager (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYJuly 6, 2017
Work Place culture has been challenging lately with new management regime. Through our struggles, the only way to solve the problem was to graph it. Production teams have struggled with manpower to support the different lines and have made escalations to management with no progress being made. The company does offer good benefits and 401K matching.
Pros
Benefits, room for growth
Cons
Schedule, work load, manpower struggles

Excellent work environment
Quality Engineer Intern (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYApril 20, 2017
My typical work day started at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 4 p.m.
I would start with filing product paperwork and entering data into excel spreadsheets. Most days consisted of auditing manufacturing processes throughout the warehouse and over viewing our glass inventory for quality checks and verifying locations. I created a lot of work instruction documentation for operators and factory workers.
I learned a lot about working with others, solving conflicts, confidentiality, safety, and auditing employees/processes. I became extremely proficient in all Microsoft programs, excel especially (coding with macro).

Management was always very helpful, I felt comfortable coming to them with problems, I created great relationships with all of the managers in my department and with HR. They made sure I had a good balance of hard work and fun during projects. Everyone was very personable.

The workplace culture was very diverse and taught me how to effectively work with others and understand their perspectives and work ethics.

The hardest part of the job was implementing changes with workers who had been there for years and were set in their ways.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with the Quality team and solving problems with the use of Lean Methodology practices.
Pros
Great environment, great people, fun work/projects
Cons
Implementing new practices took longer than it should, relying on others with timeliness

Production Worker (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYApril 2, 2017
I learned a lot from this job and had knowledge of multiple areas throughout this company from hot end, cold end and tempering section. The long work days of 12 hrs made it difficult.

this work place is very fast paced and is good for those that like a challenge. the company always puts employees first as well as safety. the hardest part about this job is learning how to manually pack glass. if you are successful in this work environment then you will be recognized.

Production Specialist (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYOctober 26, 2015
Guardian is a large well paying company. If you dont like rotating shifts then this isnt for you. hours are long and overtime is abundant, but with that said you are able to make good money and benefits are cheap compared to other companies

Manufacturing Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYFebruary 18, 2014
Everyone from the operators to the shift managers worked trick work and that made for a lot of tired employees coming to work, this system made it hard to keep employees, there was always a constant turn over.
Pros
Lots of work usually.
Cons
Working all 3 shifts.

12 hour rotating shift with mandated overtime
Production Worker (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYJuly 10, 2013
12 hour shifts working a swing shift rotating days to nights monthly running 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on 2 days, off then 3 days off and repeat...intensive manual labor for 12 hours straight manual packing glass, they're not very forgiving if something fouls up. Benefits are below good, the 401k plan is ok, the overtime is awful, some weeks you work 7 days straight working 12 hours a day and you'll be manually packing glass for those 12 hours. breaks are not good either, 3, 20 minute breaks a day. the air quality doesnt seem to be good, you shovel glass dust (silica) which causes silicosis (cancer) with no protection. You might get lucky and have a dust mask.
Pros
job security, glass will always be needed
Cons
short breaks, insurance sub par, extremely hot in the summer time, bad air quality, bad attitudes, extensive manual labor, etc, standing for 12 on concrete( never aloud to sit)

Physically demanding but rewarding
Production Associate, Tempering Department (Former Employee) –  Geneva, NYMarch 29, 2013
On the production floor everyone works 12 hour shifts. Most of the work is very demanding but the hourly wages are decent with raises coming annually until you hit $16. Overtime is usually available. The plant in Geneva includes a gym that can be used by all employees.
