Tax Specialist (Current Employee) – Atlanta, GA – July 18, 2018
I have worked with H & R Block for 3 years. It has been like working with family. Everyone is so helpful and very willing to help with advancement. My co workers were often more in tune to my abilities and knew exactly when to push. I really enjoy working with my family.
Tax Preparer /Client Service Leader (Former Employee) – San Diego, CA – July 17, 2018
I liked working at H&R Block, Your co-workers become part of your family. The company offers developmental training for tax pros every year so they can keep improving their tax knowledge. They renew your license every year and they also pay for your bond. But the pay is minimum wage and you don't get paid commissions until your second season of work is complete. It can be very competitive among employees who receive commissions, and this can create major animosity in the office. They promote from within if you would like to be an office leader, or operations administrator but they won't consider employees for any other position. The pay also goes with the position but even in the managerial position the pay is not equal. If you have a good office and team, you have a possibility of making bonus and that can be very lucrative, but the bonus only applies to good offices for the most part. It also depends on your district manager and the area where they assign you.

Friendly people and good work environment, however could be stressful during the tax season because of poor organization, bad scheduling, and long working hours (sometimes 60 hour per week at a busy location)
Growth and new challenges every day, good co workers and room to advance (certifications)
usually only can be seasonal, stressful if interact with unhappy clients
Receptionist (Former Employee) – Nashville, TN – July 17, 2018
Need to raise the pay and offer more hours for C.S.P's. I enjoyed the people at my particular office. The higher ups have no people skills and they could care less about the people who work for the company.
CSP Receptionist (Former Employee) – Yakima, WA – July 17, 2018
I didn't like the fact that when tax season is over, you're out of a job. They also laid off a lot of CPS's this last year because there was not enough work. I feel they should be more cautious about that in the hiring process.
Tax Preparer (Former Employee) – McGehee, AR – July 17, 2018
The job was very productive and very easy going and fun to learn. the management was very polite and helpful. the only problem was the business was slow and there was not enough work for all the employees.
Advanced Tax Specialist (Former Employee) – El Paso, TX – July 17, 2018
the classes are great and very informing. I recommend taking the tax certifications courses at HR block. you do learn quite a bit. I just wish the work schedules gave more hours because you are promised a full time position and then you see that you only work 10 hours a week. Courses are great
Tax professional/Instructor/Bookkeeper (Current Employee) – Sioux Falls, SD – July 16, 2018
If is great for peer support, management is somewhat out of touch with employees. There is such pressure to sell products and services to the clients that are unnecessary, products that come with the standard guarantee.
Training for advancement and excellent flexible schedule.
Tax Preparer (Former Employee) – United States – July 16, 2018
H&R Block provides a very well organized place to work. Your work schedule is always available to you. Upon arriving you alert the receptionist your are ready for your first client and continue until the end of your shift. As a tax preparer for H&R Block, I learned professionalism. Ethics and honor are highly valued in this line of work. Management is always accessible and willing to be of help or find the right person who can help with your concern. Tax preparation has many facets and can be challenging. Gaining knowledge through various classes offered is extremely satisfying.
