HCA is a big company operating in 20 different states, so there are many different cultures, also corporate vs hospital is very different. Corporate is know is cordial, supportive and a family company kind of culture. It is very mission oriented and they push community involvement even giving employees time off for communnity service.

As a rule. HCA has a very good work/life balance. That being said, during hours that one is scheduled to work, one must do more than 'show up'. I and others have been recognized for our dedication to our professional careers. Like so many things in life, one gets out what they put in. If you aren't willing to give ALL of you to your patients when you come to work, perhaps healthcare isn't for you. In my very first year of working for HCA, I had some serious medical issues that come up and my building's administration went WAY out of their way to make sure I was taken care of very well. There is a fund for just such situations funded by employee donations with additional dollars from both division and corp. I have seen this same behavior during hurricanes and other devastating situations. Yes, HCA is a for profit entity and employees are not only allowed but encouraged to literally buy into the company by stock purchases at a discount! The "big guys' in Nashville aren't typical corporate tycoons, they appear to enjoy ' sharing the wealth"!!

The environment focused on learning and improving skills. From an employee point of view, I was looked upon as the lady who would go above and beyond to help "fix it". What an honor! The work environment was fast pace which kept me on my toes. I loved it!!
