This largely depends on what industry you come from. If you come from outside of healthcare, you will find many industries such as tech, financial services, and pharma you will find that healthcare providers pay less, but pay is just on factor of a job. That being said you would also find the culture of healthcare to be more cordial, more mission driven than in those industries. If you come from the healthcare space you would find that HCA is competitive.

People stop saying the pay is what close to what other companies pay because it's not. Underpaid! The big wigs gets all the money! Even with benefits the pay is HORRIBLE! Quantity over Quality! Poor management. The raises are set up on a bell curve shape-they have a parameter on what raises or pay you will get. The 401k has changed in that now you have to be there a year just to get your match or else you lose it if you leave before the payout date. This company only cares about a dollar bit their employees well being. Cheap Christmas gifts, same Turkey/ham voucher every year. I would not recommend anyone to this company when it comes to salary.

It's more fun for them to spend lavishly on upper management and pointless gestures that only some employees benefit from to make themselves seem more employee centered than they are. The sheer disregard for 2nd and 3rd shift workers is incredible, and the pay is not even close to competitive (don't let them fool you.) I was a CERTIFIED phlebotomist and they wanted to pay me $2 more than I made as a cashier. Most of my coworkers were not certified, but my certification did me no good (didn't count as experience nor did it get me better pay). Yet they have the nerve to say they want their people to be certified and carry tons of experience, but don't pay for it!

It is all about what you have to offer, then you can name your price.

I feel the salary is competitive, it just depends on the department and your field as stated above.

HCA claims to be ethical, fair, and one of the best companies to work for, however that is not true and where do they get their statistical or factual data on these matters? Absolutely horrible to work for and not worth it. Non competitive pay and management is awful, they could use some training, it might help them keep their employees, but I doubt it. They only care about the big guy and quantity over quality of care. Oh and they absolutely do not value their employees or their hard work. In fact I was told I could find another job. Hope that helps you make your decision.

HCA is nothing but a political circus. They could care less about the patients or the employees.

You are right! The longer you work for them the worse it gets. I guess they figure "whatever. Where are they going to go at this point. We don't need to treat our employees well because they've been loyal". Maybe it affects their bonuses? Or maybe the guys in Nashville are having trouble making yacht or mansion payments.

Although HCA states that it depends on what industry you come from I have found that this is not true. I have worked for various corporations, non-profit as well as for profit all in the healthcare industry and in comparison HCA does pay on the low end of the scale. Not at all competitive even when including benefits.
