If you want to learn and grow then, we want to hear from you. At HR Green, we encourage lifelong learning and development for all staff.
Our dual-career path program enables you to follow your passion; while programs like tuition reimbursement, our in-house Green University and speaking honoraria let you become your personal best.
Lifelong Learning: Professional and personal development is woven into the fabric of HR Green. Our own Green University is a robust, in-house development program for technical skills, as well as project and client management. Our professional certification bonuses and tuition reimbursement program reward you for reaching new heights.
Community Involvement & Company Values: We live and play in the communities we serve. Beyond our engineering solutions, we volunteer our time and participate in community events. From fundraising, to toy collection drives, to building homes with Habitat for Humanity - our employees are known for their generosity and dedication to improving the communities we serve.
Compensation & Benefits: Competitive pay and benefits including 401K with company match, health benefits including dental and vision coverage, paid time off to volunteer, work life balance with PTO, reimbursement programs for fitness and employee referrals
Valuing Diversity: We value a work environment fre
e of discrimination and sexual harassment, a drug-free workplace, and an environment that promotes personal and professional growth. It is our policy to provide equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, creed, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, veteran status, marital status or sexual orientation.
We recognize it is our responsibility to help enrich our surrounding communities of residence and work. This is why HR Green has a Giving Green Volunteer community that allows employees to take paid time away from work to participate in volunteer work throughout the year.
You are hungry for success, and we want to meet you. HR Green values ambitious minds – that is why we work with several universities to offer scholarships for civil engineering students. We also place a high value on internships, as well as helping our developing employees grow throughout their career.
Internship Program: We provide a robust internship program throughout our business lines and multiple office locations. Our interns are challenged and provided the opportunity to learn and grow as they experience a professional work environment. The consistent feedback we receive from our interns is that they never expected to get the chance to do this level of work during their internship. In addition to day-to-day mentorship, there is exposure to myriad projects that allow an intern to see all aspects of the engineering environment. Our ultimate goal is to have these interns become HR Green employees that can continue our bright legacy into the future.
Entry Level Opportunities: To wow our clients, we know we need the best new graduates in the country. We offer entry-level opportunities throughout our footprint each year to ensure the next generation is ready to make the next 100 years as successful as our first.
Young Professional Groups: Charting a path inside a new organization can be challenging. HR Green has more than 75 employees who participate in Young Professional (YP) Groups in each office. Exceptional peer group support combines with direct access to company leaders to create a way for young professionals to not only understand their career path but to share and grow with their contemporaries.
Scholarships & Campus Relationships: We partner with multiple schools to offer scholarship opportunities to support the Civil Engineering programs and students. We currently partner with schools such as University of Iowa, Iowa State University, South Dakota State University, and University of Illinois – Champaign. We also work and partner with multiple other universities as we focus on the future to give students and new grads the chance to learn and join a great organization.

What do you enjoy most about working for HR Green?
At HR Green, I’ve enjoyed working on a wide range of projects and with several different project managers. HR Green gives me the opportunity to grow as an engineer by allowing me to grow my technical skills on various projects and interpersonal skills working with different project managers.
What was a few of your favorite projects?
Two of my favorite projects are quite different in scale, but both were equally challenging and fun to design. On the larger end of the spectrum, I worked on a drainage and erosion control design for the new I-57 interchange at I-294. This project required coordinating between IDOT and Illinois Tollway standards and planning around the complexities of a multi-year, multi-contract project. It was also great just to be a part of a team involved in connecting the second to last Interstate crossing in this country.
Toward the other end of the spectrum I worked on a neighborhood reconstruction and infrastructure project for the Village of Mundelein. While the project only encompassed a handful of residential streets, it had the complexities and challenges of a much larger project. The existing streets on this project had a rural cross section (shoulder and ditches at the edge of pavement). The Village wanted to improve upon these old streets with new curb and gutter. With adding new curb and gutter we needed to add new storm sewer to collect the flow of water. In addition to improving the aging roadways, the scope of the project also included replacing the existing 6” water main with new 8” water main and performing spot replacement of the aging sanitary sewer system.
What made you decide to join HR Green?
When I interviewed with HR Green, I saw that they were quite unique compared to similar firms in the industry. HR Green focuses on creating a great environment for their employees to grow and chart their own path. This then translates into creating cohesive and successful teams that are able to provide exceptional client service.
I also liked that HR Green has the ability to grow its employees through cross-department collaboration and cross-office work sharing. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with our structural, water/wastewater, water resources, and land development departments. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with our South Dakota office on an Iowa project.
