Feeling like you’re in prison
Driver (Former Employee) - Ohio City, OH - November 14, 2023
Want to feel like an inmate? This job is right for you. They make you feel very unimportant. You are on-call 24 hours seven days a week not knowing what will happen let alone the vans are crusty, nasty, dirty, and mechanical issues. Outstanding they want you to hurry. Hurry hurry pick up crew drop them off pick up new crew get gas take pictures of the van to ensure there is no exterior damage . Go back home. Wait for a phone call usually in the middle of the night around 4 AM while you’re sleeping. Not exactly a great job.
Pros
Absolutely nothing
Cons
Pay is a joke and management is very poor

Be Mentally Prepared
Driver (Current Employee) - Bowling Green, KY - November 2, 2023
You'll normally share computer rotated trips with 2 other drivers or cover for them. The seasoned drivers get the day hours, so be prepared to work nights and weekends. This is an on-call job (24-7) if you're available, you get trips. Most of them are not routine/on a schedule. If you like to drive, have supplemental income and are mentally prepared, it's solid.

The people are great.
Road Driver (Current Employee) - Collins, OH - October 30, 2023
A typical day at work is long so very, very long. I have learned my way around Ohio enough to not need a map. I love the people, they're the best part of the job. The hardest part is the long hours and not being able to do anything unless it is your day off. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people I work with, the people I transport and my boss is the best boss I have ever had. Honestly I would not do this job if he was not my manager.
Pros
Naps on the job.
Cons
Long long days

Driver (Current Employee) - Chicago, IL - October 18, 2023
I love it I can't really say nothing bad about it because I'm really not doing anything besides transport so it's nothing to transporting and you got to be patient patience is a must. But other than that everything is good the pay is okay the people is okay the management team is good the company is on point.

Micromangers
Driver (Current Employee) - Texas - October 10, 2023
Do you like being under a microscope the entire time you are at work? You are at this garbage company .All management likes to do is spy on its drivers and offer endless criticism. Make the slightest mistake, and you will hear about it - endlessly. And you WILL be exhausted all the time because you will be "on duty" until you use up all 12 hours, though it may take 24 for that to happen. And forget about having any personal time. You are on duty 15 out of every 24 hours. That means you have to choose sleep or taking care of personal business, but not both.

Total waste of time
Driver - Over the Road (Former Employee) - Davenport, IA - October 6, 2023
** the worst place I've ever worked. very low pay ** managers that have no leadership skills to speak of. ** this company has no integrity, respect, or professionalism and not one ounce of honesty. ** No standards to speak of ** Required to be "on call " for 12 hrs. with no compensation unless you are on a call. so if you have a call and it takes you only a hour to do then that's all you be payed for the whole 12 hrs. ** A very toxic work environment and culture.

Headless roosters
Driver (Current Employee) - Beaumont, TX - September 23, 2023
The company itself has so much potential to be great. The supervisor is extremely rude to employees. You will be sitting for hours without call out. The vans have ac issues and the supervisor doesn’t care to do maintenance on them. Management and workplace environment is almost like highschool. The most enjoyable thing for me is going home.

Don’t care about employees… you’re just a number. Absolutely no work/life balance for horrible pay
Driver/ Railroad Employee (Current Employee) - Conway, PA - September 18, 2023
This job is a BIG disappointment!! No work/life balance. They don’t care about their employees. Changing management ALL the time with absolutely NO communication with the employees.

No real training, they lie to you, and keep track of your hours yourself because they'll rip you off.
Driver (Former Employee) - Kansas City, KS - September 14, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The pay, that is the only positive thing I can say about this job. Well, and the railroaders are cool. The people at Hallcon have no respect for you, your rest, personal life , or your other obligations. They will tell you anything to get you to take a call and they will never stand behind their promises. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The endless calls. They will call you until you unplug your phone you can work 12 hours through and they'll still keep calling you to take a job even though you're past the limit and they don't care about your rest. I got off at 11: 00pm got called at 2,3,5 and 7am. For stupid reasons like a survey. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They want me to work 12 hours sleep 8 and come right back to work and work another 12 hours you have no time to go to the grocery store or do anything because after you work your 12 hours you still got to take the van to somebody else and that's not considered part of the drive time like it should be. And then they interrupt your sleep over and over again. What is a typical day like for you at the company? You might get the van and sit around and wait for 3 to 4 hours before you get called to work and then they want you to work 12 hours from there. What about the 4 hours you've been standing around waiting you weren't sleeping during that time so you're not getting rested to work 12 hours but they don't care. Or you could get the van and work a 3-hour gig and go home and wait five six hours before you -

Very poor commination skills
Driver (Former Employee) - Clovis, NM - September 13, 2023
When it comes to working with hallcon it was a very stressful workplace when it comes to being on call at all hours of the night .Lack of communication When it comes to gaining information for drivers the I was put on a HR hold for over a month due to the fact that communication was poor. I myself, had to call the corporate office to gain the information that was needed for them to make sure it was getting done. This caused for me to have many complications due to not working for over a month, well after turning my two weeks in, they finally said i was able to come back to work, only after I turned in my two weeks notice.

Poor communication, Lack of free time, Poor work schedules

Not enough pay considering other companies in the same business.
Driver (Former Employee) - Proctor, MN - September 13, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Unsafe! They don’t care about maintaining the company vehicles. They ignore drivers when they, the company, are warned of unsafe vans. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Crew members making unsafe demands. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? See previous responses. The previous responses are self explanatory. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Working as a subsidiary company for a major railroad.
