Old school minded Korean people
Teller (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAJanuary 10, 2018
They need to be more open minded as their culture is very traditional Korean rather than American.
There are zero room for advancement unless you know of someone of higher rank.

Software QA Tester (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAJuly 20, 2017
Medium size bank mainly serving LA and surrounding areas. Focused on international trade - the company is still undergoing a lot of changes and yet not stable. Management needs to take initiative to provide training.

Lack of communications from Senior Management in Los Angeles.
Special Assets Manager (Former Employee) –  Garland, TXNovember 24, 2015
This wasn't fun place to work since the merger with United Central Bank. There was lack of communication from senior management in LA. Then you are told one thing, and the complete opposite occurs 10 days later.

Loan Assistant (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAOctober 22, 2015
Even though the company has shifted towards a more Korean American culture and environment, a lot of the branches are still just "Korean". The differences in culture definitely does affect your working conditions and the environment you work in if you are a second generation Korean American like I am. Compensation is decent compared to the workload, but a lot of the ambitious, younger salary employees have stated that the compensation is lower than other financial institutions and the high turnover rate supports their statement.

The head office wants to become more aggressive yet are very conservative once it comes to the final approval resulting in a lot of time and effort gone to waste.

Aside from the management, culture, and compensation, for a secure, stable career, it's not a bad company.

Financial Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CAJuly 28, 2015
There are a number of things I like about the company I work for. What I am doing at work is nothing about the paycheck or benefits here. This is about the day-to-day mundanities that I derive joy from.

Credit/Administrative Assistant II (Current Employee) –  Garland, TXFebruary 9, 2015
No stability since the merger, other than that it was a great place to work.

I learned how to be patient, and work through any difficuly task thrown my way.

The hardest part is not having enough work to do.
Pros
Quarterly team allowance
Cons
No stability

Safe and steady job, thus no room for real advancement
Loan Officer Trainee (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CANovember 26, 2013
It's a relatively safe job with a lot of responsibilities. You definitely have to juggle a lot with different projects. Because it is a relatively safe job, there isn't much skill sets you can learn from this job. Many of the long tenured loan officers have said that once you're in commercial banking as a loan officer for 3 years, there's not much else you can do outside of it.

The salary is small and you won't really make much until after 7-10 years of experience. Even then, I'd say you'll barely make $38-45k despite all those years of experience.
Pros
Benefits, Company dinners, steady work
Cons
Low Pay, Company Culture

Vice President & Loan Officer (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAMay 14, 2013
- Mostly spend time in analyzing financial & credit risks of applicants and existing borrowers and underwrite commercial loans
- Gained insight of commercial lending through excellent training programs
- Weak credit decision making process by management
- Great colleagues who are supportive of each other
- Dealing with internal audit department is the hardest part of the job
- Getting approval for applicants/borrowers and contributing to the company by loan production were the most enjoyable parts of the job
