Quick-paced but not so organized place to work.
Working at Harlem Link as a Program aide, then over a few months progressing to a Group Leader in the after school program. You have to have patience to deal with the children, of course. As well as the staff members. Working 3 hours a day sometimes four. You learn to get along with your coworkers learning that they share the same struggles and successes as you. You learn how to deal with the different personalities of children and how to be the best you can be for not only yourself but the children. I'd have to say that is the most enjoyable part. Seeing how children, even though they are small do have minds and feelings of their own. The hardest part being how unorganized the work environment is. Sometimes not having enough or the right supplies. Though, you learn how to work with what you got.
Pros
Working with the children.
Cons
Short hours, low pay.

I love working with my co-workers. I have no complaints. They a very hands on with the children. The supervisors listened all your ideas. I learned how to communicate better. Typical day was great. Hardest part of the job was Writing up late slip fast.

Fun workplace
The children interacting with the staff and each other shows how much growth potential each child has. The family environment help to nurture, and give each child the space they need to also grow as individuals, along with the sense of accomplishment each staff member feels at the end of each day, makes it all worth it.
Pros
understanding suervisors
Cons
advancement within the school

Bad School
No matter how much you put into this job, it is a lost cause. The children are out of control and so are their parents. Everything falls on deaf ears.

Great place to work!
I very much enjoyed working as a teacher at Harlem Link. The school has a close-knit community feel among staff, students and families; almost all families are actively involved in their child's education and happy to work in partnership with teachers.

I disagree with the previous review's negative comments about school leadership. The administration works very hard and there is a lot of opportunity for teachers and staff members to give specific feedback to school leaders as to the direction and operation of the school. During my time there, several changes were implemented as a direct result of staff feedback.

Teachers work hard, but expectations are fair and compensation is generous. Grade teams collaborate on planning. Overall, it was a great place to work and grow as an educator. Great kids, great staff!
Pros
Structured yet positive learning environment, nice staff culture, great students
Cons
Slightly shorter summer break than DOE schools

Charter School with Public School Like Hours AND PAY
The school hours are from 8:10-3:30 each day which is not bad considering most charters ask for 7:30 - 5:00.

Co- workers are close knit, but leadership is poor. The principal doesn't do his job. He half does it, and the director of curriculum is worst, she 1/3 does her job. They both don't have a presence in the building.

However, the assistant principals are fairly good they do all the work with little to no support from both the principal and the director of curriculum.
Pros
Co-teaching Model, hours and pay, kids
Cons
Poor leadership, Poor communication among leadership to staff
