Good company, safety not always as important as production
Aerial Line Foreman (Former Employee) –  Gettysburg, PAJune 14, 2017
Good company, overall. Safety is a personal responsibility. Know your own limits and follow. Travel gets tiresome. Sometimes poor hotels. Pay increases few and far between. No bonuses.
Pros
Flying
Cons
short breaks, health care is marginal at best, no matching 401

You get to fly on a helicopter
Helicopter Lineman (Current Employee) –  Gettysburg, PAJuly 20, 2016
As far as powerline work from a helicopter goes Haverfield is the safest place to work. the work is enjoyable, the workers out in the field are mostly easy to get along with. my issues arise the chiefs in the office. they go through dry spells where there is no work for months, and unless you have a friend in the office you may be sitting at home for those months. scheduling is a major problem, it will be hard on your family if they aren't used to you being gone for long periods of time. it definitely helps if you are single. also not knowing when you're going back out to work is stressful in itself. helps if you are a journyman lineman, have your class A CDL, and have had previous helicopter experience.
Pros
You get to see/visit different places
Cons
Not family friendly, no set schedule, and vary little advancment oppertunities

Haverfield is a great company. I enjoyed my job and the work environment. I learned many things at Haverfield but mainly what it is to be a team player.

Do not quit your job to work here.
Administration (Current Employee) –  Gettysburg,PAMarch 1, 2016
The best part of job is the lineman. They do most of the work along with the shop coordinator.

Ask a lineman about the position since some of them were temporarily tasked with the responsibility.
It is a catch all for the office blame game.

Along with having a HAZMAT endorsement make sure you have a
HAZMAT suit to wear while working in the shop.

The last guy was doing a outstanding job and was left go after he cleaned and organized the building.
None of us know why this happened.

The office personnel liked him so much that they stood and watched him hand shovel the record snow fall from the break room.
Pros
Some good people
Cons
Alot of managers jockeying for president position.

The job would be more fun if certain managers respected their employees. High turnover.
Field Support Role (Current Employee) –  InternationalJanuary 29, 2016
Work is fun, diverse, and with changing priorities by the second.

Learned that the field personnel avoid office personnel due to mid level condescending management style.

While you are risking your life 200 ft high in the air in -10 degree weather, make sure you do most of administrative work with your other hand.

Fear of retribution when trying to make or suggest improvements.

Others such as the Owner/CEO is respectful to everyone but is insulated from the actions between managers and subordinates.

Some upper level managers are legends in their own mind.
Their large EGO's dwarf the Goodyear blimp and operate like the Hindenburg.

Hardest part of job is dealing with arrogance and berating management style of one in particular. Does respect accomplishments and is not a team player. Using company as a stepping stone and will most likely move on after a few years.

Most enjoyable part of job is some of the personnel and surrounding environment.
Safety is of utmost importance due to nature of industry.
Pros
Type of Work.
Cons
Large EGO's and disrespect of working people by mid level managers.

Fun job
Aerial Lineman (Former Employee) –  gettysburg paMay 4, 2014
Hanging out of a helicopter is quite the rush but it wears off like any job after awhile. You travel the country and see a lot of neat things ,places and meet some unique characters. I like the work, get your tools ready for whatever it is were doing, fuel the chopper and fly away. Learned many valuable things. Great experience!
Pros
Paid no matter what
Cons
Dangerous work
