Money and benefits are there but they hide a lack of rewarding kudos and thank-yous from managment

The leadership does not accept feedback on their poor people skills. The people working there are breaking their backs to perform at peakness but never appreciated.

Constant Revikving Door and Lead by Feat Tactocs

Don’t disagree with the COO or CEO or you will get walked out the door with a quickness. They lead by fear tactics. HR director gets joy out of firing people and will do so in most disrespectful way. The executive team is messy and cliche. Constant turnover. You have to fight for raises. Favoritism and discrimination are how decisions are made. Beware and stay clear.

Pros

None.

Cons

Everything.

Dysfunctional

Focus is on quantity of patients seen. Insufficient time permitted for patient care. Lack of communication from executives. Lack of autonomy. Lack of transparency. Favoritism. Management positions occupied by people who are compensated for managing but fail to do the desperately needed actual managing. Failure to take responsibility and scapegoating. Apathy regarding staff behavior--for some staff but not others.

Pros

Nice building

Great organization with a great mission and great people !

Although the organization has faced multiple challenges over the past few years, the hiring of a new CEO and new senior leaders in key roles has made for a tremendous turnaround !

Terrible place to work

Management at Heartland have no experience in running a medical clinic. They do not take the time to train employees properly. As an employee, do not ever question management or ask for clarification on anything. The clinic manager and the nurse manager believe they know everything and walk around with their noses in the air. Heartland is a do as I say or you will be let go clinic.

Overall a nice place to work

The company provides healthcare for insured and uninsured patients which is a valuable service for the local community and other communities. It is a FQHC that provides medical, dental, behavioral and psychiatric all inclusive services. I would recommend others to Heartland.

Do not work here

If I could rate it a 0 I would!!!! They offer high wages and 3 weeks paid time off a year to keep you!!!! It makes it so you can't take another job because you cannot afford to quit!!

Intern's Experience

I only worked at Heartland as an intern, so I can't speak to how well they pay. However, the work culture that I witnessed there was good. I interacted with most of the employees, and everyone was generally kind. I know there tended to be a lot of interpersonal drama going on behind the scenes, but I was never immersed enough to know what was happening. I like that the clinic had set start times and end times, which I think led to a better work-life balance. Although I saw that the doctors there did seem to struggle with work-life balance some.

great co workers

co-workers are great to work with and act more as a family. A lot of change in a short amount of time which can make knowing your job more difficult to learn and maintain.

Good place to work

It was a nice place to work. There are many oppritunities to help people that are struggling in life. It is a great place that helps people that are under privileged.

Great place to work for nurses

Ever changing, non stop paced workplace that really has great ideas for efficiency that sometimes clash due to the amount of total ideas. Friendship oriented for sure!

A place to advance your career

I thrived in this work environment because of the constant challenge to be a better employee and a better person. HCHC treats it's employees like it treats it's patients: everyone deserves to be treated well. The culture is work hard, play hard. Efforts in labor and other contributions do not go unnoticed. Management is caring and fair. You can tell they love what they do. If you want to advance your career there is plenty of room to grow.

Heartland Community Health Center

This past year I completed my advanced field practicum experience, as an intern, at Heartland Community Health Center in Lawrence, Ks. With this placement I have encountered great experiences and developed skills throughout the year that are to be utilized within my field of study. I sincerely want to continue work in the social work field, as a BSW graduate. A major strength of mine is my ability to communicate persuasively and openly with clients, as well as creating lasting and positive relationships. As a social work intern the last year I made many contributions to their programs. These included demonstrating dedication to clients by continuation of work with all assigned clients, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team for planning and implementing patient care, demonstrating effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, groups, colleagues, and organizations assisting clients with enrolling for medication assistance; and managed individual cases that lead to utilization of healthcare, housing, and transportation resources. Outside of my placement at Heartland Community Health Center, I implemented and lead a Financial Literacy group at Lawrence Homeless Shelter, effectively facilitating financial activities that result in constructive use of the group’s individual finances. With all of this experience, I believe that I would greatly benefit your program and bring forth new ideas to exemplify existing goals for those at further employment opportunities. I have a strong passion for living a healthy and positive lifestyle and helping individuals -
