Highland Plastics is a plastic sheet extruder. This means we have many different machines that support the sheet extrusion process, such as granulators, mixers, compounders, extruders, chrome roll stacks, trim pullers, winders, and shears. Most of our hiring is into machine operator positions that learn how to operate this equipment, starting with the simplest equipment and working your way up to the more complex machines.

We are different to most other factories because we don't try to keep jobs simple and keep our workers replaceable. You won't be stood on an assembly line, or endlessly doing the same simple task forever. Our environment is dynamic, loud, and dirty. If you work on the floor you will be part of a team doing everything it takes to get our product to our customers on time and looking fantastic. You'll be hot and sweaty, but you won't be bored.
We are a small business of about 50 people two hours away from most of our customers, competing against much larger businesses that use their size to make life difficult for us. The reason we are successful and continue to grow is because we pick our battles and beat the competition on product quality or complexity, most of the time after our customers have tried the other guys and eventually turned to us to get it right. That means that we need to be better at our jobs than the other guys; we need to attract better people, do a better job of teaching them the skills they need to succeed, and do a better job of giving them a place to work at where they want to stay for many years.
We are trying to be the best employer in Gratiot and Isabella. You can't please everyone all of the time, but we listen to our workforce and continually try to improve the working environment to keep everyone safe and motivated. We offer great benefits and a high starting wage with a clear path to earning more. We don't tolerate jerks either, and think company culture is more than just a slogan in a break room. If we sound like the kind of place you would like to work, please consider applying when we have a job opening.
