Enjoyed the Job but Not the Employer
Companion Caregiver (Former Employee) - Herndon, VA - January 22, 2020
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI enjoyed working with clients. It was a joy to provide care and companionship to an older generation and I learned so much from each of them. I did not enjoy working for the company. I felt disrespected and underpaid. The reason I left was because they could not provide me with a steady client load within a reasonable commute from my house. Also, I had started walking dogs part time and found that I was paid more for that than taking care of elderly clients.

Your at clients houses so there the ones that make your job fun and exciting not the office
I’m a carepro (Current Employee) - Clarksville, TN - December 9, 2023
I have been here for 4 1/2 years I enjoyed it until we got new management the older ones seem to care more about there employees. The carepro are the ones that go to work and take care of the client and some don’t even realize what the client needs but the carepro go out in the field and make them happy So I was happy until all the changes. I love the clients
Pros
There are not really any pros
Cons
No breaks n free lunch no gas milage unless I go to anther client

They paid us pennies
Elderly Caregiver (Former Employee) - Atlanta, GA - December 6, 2023
I enjoyed what I did. I enjoyed my clients. The problem though was the pay, lack of benefits. The pay was very low for the work and there was no kind of raises or anything. Benefits were also none existant. Home instead wanted you to work and be on time but couldn't pay you for your time nor supply you with any benefits for you nor your family yet you were out there taking care of other families. The managers were okay. I like they weren't down your back.
Pros
Working unsupervised, picking your own schedule. Regular clients, accessibility to clients, revelent knowledge
Cons
Pay. Pay. Benefits. Pay. No Benefits

Productive and fun work place
Caregiver (Current Employee) - Livonia, MI - December 6, 2023
Assigned duties for the day. I learned different skills. Management is nice and works with all your needs. Work place is 10/10. The hardest part of the job is the not so nice people you meet on the job. Nothing to do with office staff. The most enjoyable part of the job meeting new people and being their hero.
Pros
Brunches the office provide
Cons
Pay out can be a bit more

Flexibility but unfair pay
Senior Caregiver (Former Employee) - Hickory, NC - December 6, 2023
Training was only two days and wasn’t carried out very diligently overall. There should be more in depth training for a position where the elderly will be your care. The hours were very flexible but not always consistent. Most of the clients I got were quite easy to care for, but the pay did not compensate for the amount of work put in as well as the travel to clients. With the amount they charge families for the service, they could absolutely afford to not only properly train their staff, but also pay them competently. I did very much enjoy each of the clients I received though. Asking for time off was also not a hassle.
Pros
Flexible, enjoyable clientele
Cons
Unfair pay, incompetence training, shady management practices

Lack of Communication
Personal Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Martinsburg, WV - December 3, 2023
I love what Home Instead stands for but the lack of communication is a major problem. No one calls you back but tells you they will. Also, it is hard when you want to be successful but not given all the info to help you in being a successful employee. Overall, 3 of 5 stars.

Definitely not a ping pong position
Caregiver (Former Employee) - Henderson, NV - December 3, 2023
You worked hard. The hardest part of the job was working three 12 hour days. If you ever called out sick, they would just fire you. They never gave you any chances. They’d literally take you off the work schedule. They did not care if you had a doctors note. They did not care about their employees.
Pros
Free lunch on orientation day
Cons
Long hours and removed off schedule
