It is definitely a "sink or swim environment", and I sank miserably. If you work the back unloading trucks and processing the merchandise that comes in you have to work really FAST. Which is fine and it's not hard work. You are just opening boxes and making sure stuff is priced and putting it on tanks (racks with wheels) for associates to put on the sales floor. The hard part is they have so much stuff and they rush you to get it done and there is not enough room in the back and it is a big mess. If you are new, they throw you in and expect you to perform like the ones who have been there a while. But, if you are new you don't know the departments yet and trying to figure out which tank to put stuff on can get confusing. I was told to put stuff on tanks that were near each other in the store, but I was new and did not know the layout of the store yet. I had shopped there, but I still did not know where everything in the store was. My coworkers wanted to not have to run the tank all over the store and that is why they want merchandise on the tanks to be organized a certain way. That is understandable, but when you are brand new, you don't know the departments yet and even though they give you a list, when you are processing you don't have time to consult the list. The back room coordinator is yelling for you to speed up and so you just open boxes and pull stuff out as fast as you can and put it on tanks. They make you put your name on the tank though with a sticky note so they will know who to blame if the tank is wrong. I was new, I knew my tanks probably were not organized the best way, but that comes with being new.
There are some nice helpful coworkers, and then there are ones who just ignored you and did not want to help new employees. I think the way HomeGoods does their trucks/processing could definitely be improved and be more organized. Maybe HomeGoods should consider night deliveries and have an overnight shift just for unloading trucks/processing/stocking? That would be better than rushing people so much. I understand fast work, and I understand keeping payroll costs down, but to be fair to employees you should create an environment where they have the chance to do their work correctly. Don't just rush and rush them and then complain when something gets messed up. Fast production work that is accurate only comes from an organized environment.

Terrible. I've become more and more dissapointed with this place over the years. Always understaffed and horrible standards. Typically one cashier at a time, when it's a clearly popular store, customers have to end up waiting long periods of time, and employees seem to be bothered to help out. Carry outs aren't required (stated at orientation), but have somehow managed to become an expectation, and yet tips aren't allowed. Customers tend to be dramatic, rude, and very difficult. Returns require approval so it creates a lack of time efficiency among the workers and the customers.

This is honestly such a bad job. They starting pay is great and you get a raise around the same time every year which isn't terrible. What ruined it for me is that they only had me cashiering for almost 3 years despite BEGGING to do something else. This place is always understaffed and has major customer rushes and typically only one cashier. Employees want to remain unbothered to help. Carry-outs aren't required/demanded from employees (stated at orientation) but they put people on the schedule of who to call, and tips are not allowed. Customers tend to be very snobby and commanding of everything you do, if you wrap their item, but say you don't use enough tape they will scold you. Management is always frustrated to do their job, returns required approval and it's definitely not effiecient having to wait for someone else. It's overall a very stressful job.

I think Homegoods has too much drama and talk behind others back ( people should work) my DM even says so but him or the management doesn’t do anything about it.

Westbury Home Goods is a job to have as a part-time workers, working just a one day to a few days a week. Don't bother becoming a Merchandise Coordinator because the pay is terrible and management truly doesn't care about your hard-work.

Terrible work-environment here at the Westbury, N.Y location and Rockville Center, and in-experienced Management staff, who is obviously paid to be nice. Most of the workers here are students who attend the near-by college, but it is a mix of adults ranging from twenty-one to six-five too. Very immature atmosphere, with plenty of gossip behind your back and everyone's back. Mostly friendly with an extra chip on everyone's shoulder.

It differs from store to store. I would visit the store several times to see how the employees act and if they seem happy.
