The LEGAL work is great. The corporate paper pushing assigned by the AVP of Law Operations is cumbersome. Be prepared to feel isolated & left out.
Paralegal (Former Employee) – Springfield, IL – May 16, 2019
Legal work for attorneys was great. Reporting structure of position doesn’t make sense. AVP of law operations needs an admin assistant to assist with her corporate duties. The paralegal should report to an AVP attorney and be nonexempt like the attorneys to better assist them. It’s hard being the only member of the law division who has no flexibility with schedule and working from home options. The paralegal is definitely made to feel “less than” and “beneath” the other members of the law division. There’s a very catty, “mean girls” type of vibe. Everyone in the department is always so busy, it’s hard to get real direction or training. It’s sad because the company as a whole is great and other business areas seem to have really good team work environments. Unfortunately, the law division is the exception.
Mean girls culture in the law division, illogical reporting structure for paralegal position, needs to be nonexempt to better assist the attorneys.
Work there I learned how a company should not be run and how not to treat employees. I would never recommend anyone work there unless they needed training to move one to a much better company but let them foot the bill for your training.
