The job itself is easy and it’s a nice environment to work in, not very stressful and simple tasks to pass the day. However you are working with a lot of teenagers which can be annoying and the hours can be anything from once a week to 5 days a week depending on the time of year.

Management team in store was fantastic as we our partners at other stores. It’s a fun environment, however, the company likes to use pop culture to pretend it cares about its employees, all while pay was at extremely low rates, usually minimum wage, for staff. Managers were often making .50 to a dollar more, with a significant increase in responsibility and little to no ability to move into othe...
Assistant Store Manager in Nashville, TN

Out of all the other retailers I have worked for, Hot Topic was the best in terms of a fun environment and great employee discounts (40% off). The pay was below average. If you were a sales associate, your weekly hours were a hit or miss. Some weeks sales associates would work 3 hours. 3-hour shifts were very common.

You’re underpaid, overworked, and disrespected. Unattainable KPIs, management on power trips, and the most unprofessional work environment on the planet.

It's fun, but you rarely get hours. Most I've seen a sales associate get was 25 hours. They keep you at minimum wage and the hardest part was dealing with management; everything else was relatively simple and easy.
