Enjoyable work experience from an housing authority prospective
Housing Specialist (Former Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - January 15, 2023
High demand for high quality work place. Need additional staffing. Part time positions not available or offered to qualified applicants. Strict environment, feeling of being watched over individuals. Favoritism is shown. Some of Management staff strive hard to be fair, but some are selective. I enjoyed my tenure there, but jealous of ones work performances are not treated equally. Has management ever wonder why the turnover is so high. The individuals that were the best you let go or failed to make adjustments to assist them through their hardships. They would have contributed greatly to the advancement of HCAAC.
Pros
Accommodations made whenever needed to make workers comfortable.
Cons
Lack of certain workers health issues. Favoritism definitely a problem.

Great work/life balance
Current Employee (Current Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - July 19, 2021
Morale has approved tremendously. Thanks to the leaders hiring a competent HR manager who has made a positive impact on the employees. She is walking the talk. She listens to the employees and shows genuine care and concern. The senior leaders are listening to the employees and have made some good changes. Morale is much better. I’m excited to be an employee there again….much different from years past. I’m glad that I decided to stay.

beware of unconscious bias..
Interviewer (Former Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - June 5, 2021
Upper Management is raciest, very conservative. Not an alley to the people they are serving. How is your complete upper management not the same race as the people you are serving. How is it that you are giving jobs to the next white employee. Everyone at the top is friends and get away with treating the other staff horribly. Even there 3rd party companies that they hire to help them know this.

Some Great Employees who work there but treated no so great
Assistant Property Manager (Former Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - September 3, 2020
supervisor Must be willing to train and follow through to make sure employee understand the system required to use. Upper management listens only to their click and no one listens to new comers. The director of housing was informed of various tasks and concerns and did absolutely nothing because she was too concern with my supervisor returning back to work. Will constantly and consistently ask other employees personal life and not what concerns you on a training or get your task done properly. The director of housing will go through your computer and tell you she did it twice and to my immediate supervisor.
Pros
Hour lunch and short distant
Cons
Training occurs when deemed necessary

Excellent Place to Work
Property Manager (Current Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - May 30, 2019
This job isn't for the weak, however, I am comfortable with my director and coworkers. Our CEO is the absolute best and puts his employee's first- he is extremely down to earth and understanding. This agency is your family outside of your real family.

Horrible Employer
Housing Specialist (Current Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - June 2, 2018
CEO doesn’t care how business is ran by directors. He’s not involved with anything pertaining to company. Horrible leadership team. Very racist company. Horrible benefits.

Receptionist, Office Assistant (Current Employee) - Pasadena, MD - July 6, 2017
My supervisor is great at what she does and teaches all that need information what is needed to keep a successful office. Unfortunately she is the only Supervisor I know that is about her business. Others don't hire people for what they can do but for what color they are or if they like them.
Pros
Working in the office i work in of the company
Cons
Working in any of the other offices; plus hard to get hired

Management are nothing but a bunch of liars and crooks
Housing Specialist (Former Employee) - Anne Arundel County, MD - August 27, 2016
Management are nothing but a bunch of liars who are very unprofessional. The director allows her employees to degrade other co workers by allowing them to take pictures of them on their cell phone and then post the pictures on Facebook. If the director is jealous of you she will lie and make things up to get rid of you because she can't handle competition. This place is the worst.
Pros
I got a chance to help people who were in need.
Cons
Jealous unprofessional supervisors and co workers

Satisfying work
Assistant Director of Community Safety (Former Employee) - Anne Arundel County, MD - July 27, 2016
My job was to take care or and care for communities, particularly the safety of those communities.
My skill set is law enforcement and initially my supervisor was a former L.E.O. and had a greater understanding of how I worked.
Once he retired my job was than deemed "too dangerous" and it was requested that I signed a waiver, relieving the company of liability should I become hurt and or killed.
The requesting of this waiver was not something I was willing to do though I wanted to continue to work in the communities and do all I could to make them safe; I received an email from my director stating that the mere acknowledgement of the receipt of the waiver via email was sufficient and my signature was not required. I resigned at that time not willing to risk my family incurring any financial hardship should I had become hurt on the job.
Pros
Great working with good communities and seeing the results
Cons
Long, long hours and little support from directors.

Fast Pace/ Multitasking
Purchasing & Warehouse Specialist (Current Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - December 24, 2015
Working with Maintenace staff, providing them with the materials they need to complete work orders for the company. Working with outside vendors, to get the best price and service to our company.
The hardest part of my job, would be communicating with all of the different personalities. The more It is done the easier it becomes.

Section 8 Program
Housing Specialist (Former Employee) - Glen Burnie, MD - October 12, 2015
Busy work environment from start of the day until finish. HUD operated program, had to follow the rules and regulations set forth by HUD for the state of MD. Too many clients per housing specialist. Not enough hours of the day to complete your work. The most enjoyable part of my job was to be able to keep the elderly and disabled housed.
Pros
1 hour lunches, off all federal holidays
Cons
Health care, short staffed

Good location to work
Assistant Property Manager 300 units (Former Employee) - Severn, MD - May 7, 2012
This was a public housing company. My job was to recertifiy familes for public housing. This job was very chanllanging, because of my care for human beings in general. My work days were different each day in dealing with these families. I learned alot about public housing and how some people can play the system, and how some people become complacent and are made to feel they cannot do any better. I dealt with mistreated children, nasty homes and pest on a regular.
Pros
convenient to home
Cons
to may misfortunate families
