Casual work environment; slow paced; busy work focus
Retail Service Associate (Former Employee) – Roanoke, VA – March 1, 2019
Hudson, being located inside an airport, grants associates the opportunity to meet and chat with people from all over. My location however is a smaller terminal and did not receive quite as many visitors as larger terminals would. But still, based on Hudson's work culture, they were very stringent about maintaining welcoming, up-to-date technology and accessory options for travelers coming and going from our area, with clothing, souvenirs and literature.
The work consisted of maintaining a retail space full of edibles, such as candies, salty snacks and beverages. While also providing literature in magazines, new release novels, local sports memorabilia, shirts, sweatshirts and baseball hats. As well as technology options focusing around headphones, battery chargers and accessories for those who forgot their device's peripherals at home.
Because the job was primarily focused on people flying out of the terminal, our business was mostly effected by flight delays departing, which at times can force store closure to be delayed until the final flight has left the tarmac. During downtime, associates are responsible for maintaining store cleanliness and stock levels, folding new apparel to be placed on shelves, ensuring price tagging is done on all items so that they can be quickly referenced for inquiry and also ensuring that all shelves, floor kiosks and banners are kept up to date and in good condition.
20% discount on all Hudson News merchandise or associates, 10% for restaurant purchases across the hall, getting to meet various people and hear stories from all over the world.
Lack of upward mobility for those looking to advance.
