The job has a variety of opportunities to learn and expand professional development. I have been given many opportunities to explore ideas that I have in making my employment experience a positive one.

Horrible upper management, especially the CEO
Care Manager (Former Employee) –  MamaroneckJune 13, 2019
Upper management, with the permission of the CEO, treats their staff terribly. You are micro managed, disrespected and paid poorly. You are not allowed independent thought. The burn out rate as well as the turn over rate is high.

Great entry level position
Care Manager (Current Employee) –  Mamaroneck, NYSeptember 26, 2018
HDSW is a great work place to get the experience you need and move on. There is no room to advance in your career here because its such a small agency.
Pros
The staff is flexible and you get a lot of freedom.
Cons
There is a lot of micromanaging which impedes the work flow.

ok experience
supervisor (Former Employee) –  Mamaroneck, NYAugust 14, 2018
The mission and the services offered to clients are present but the dictation from the higher ups is difficult to deal with, especially in middle management. A lot of blame when mistakes are made instead of offering support to staff. So much potential if the right people are making the decisions. Having said that, there are tons of training opportunities and fun activities that go on.

Volunteer Receptionist (Current Employee) –  Port Chester, NYApril 29, 2018
You may encounter doing work not in your job description if others in your department can't chew gum and walk at the same time. You could be micro-managed.
Pros
Some nice people
Cons
Minorities are more exempt from some areas and departments

Toxic work environment
Residential Counselor (Former Employee) –  Port Chester, NYDecember 2, 2017
First off, I'd like to mention that, for the most part, I found my coworkers (and clients) to be compassionate and lovely people. That being said:

Toxic work environment - Program Director is extremely unprofessional, and operates on a basis of blatant favoritism. She is overtly petty, and regularly insults and mocks staff members when they leave the room. Job outcome and experience is directly determined by whether or not she "likes" someone. This extends to her treatment of the residents, which directly influences the quality of their care.
Pros
genuinely meaningful experiences with clients
Cons
hostility, one-sided demands, toxicity "tickling down" from upper management

Residential care manager
Residential Care Manager (Former Employee) –  Mamaroneck, NYMarch 1, 2017
The director is very disrespectful and talks down to the employees. Staff are not appreciated. And there is little support from within the company. When you bring up problems nothing gets solved. And it's really hard to keep staff so being short staff is normal.
Pros
Flexible schedule
Cons
Directors, Pay, and No Structure
