Great Experience and made a lot of professional contacts working there

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
IBM was a great company to work for and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I worked with a lot of great people at IBM and had a lot of fun even though it was also very challenging given the amount of Solution which IBM offer. The biggest challenge was the constant change of people, territory and accounts.

Pros

Great training program and people who work there

Cons

Frequent Territory and Account Changes every 6 months

Pros

Good people but not a good company

The company is not reliable any more. You always have a fear of losing your job at IBM as full-time employee. They're laying off almost every other quarter. They lay off more full time employees than contractors. If people are looking for a contract job where they don't have to worry about losing their job then they should apply for IBM.

Pros

Very productive and friendly, professional workplace

Enjoyed working with the staff at IBM. The environment was also pleasant. Typically worked alone with very little supervision. Working at IBM was a great experience.

I loved the work

I loved working for IBM however in the last several years there was always a fear of being laid off without notice. IBM was constantly reducing benefits for employes due to failing quarterly numbers. There was no loyalty to long term employees.

Pros

Plenty of work to stay busy, Excellent team members to work with. I learned a lot. Telecommuter program.

Cons

Constant fear of layoffs.

Good place to work

IBM is a great company to work for. If you are the type of person that is a self starter, independent and a hard work you will succeed in this company. They preached work life balance but back in the day there wasn't much balance at all. We worked odd hours and on the weekends so they never walked the walk when it came to W/L balance. Loved that we could work at home, and basically had a pretty flexible schedule. I left back in 2008 and that was when they have "project lean" going on. There was quite a bit of outsourcing to other countries and so a lot of people got laid off because of this. Not sure how it is today as I don't keep in contact with many employees.

Pros

Flexible schedule

Cons

outsourcing of jobs

Poor contract leadership

The money is great and thats about it. Management are project managers are typically clueless, non-technical but yet make decisions and directions even though they dont have a good grasp of the task at hand.

Pros

work from home, Money

Cons

Everything, typical big blue.

Innovation is a daily process

The amount of technology available is awesome. Working independently is nice when you can manage all your activities without getting consistent approval. There are so many technologies to learn its like going to a candy store.

Pros

You can work independently

Cons

Need to add additional hours to a day

So much work that it's hard to find time for learning or comradery

Verizon Managed Services is a place where there is most often no time to think, because the work load is truly chaotic, however this is not to say that there are not lull periods in the storm. They are just very brief and must be used for planning and clean up. Most PMs either acclimate or burn out. The salary and benefits you will receive at Verizon are given to you for a reason. They expect only great Project Managers.

Pros

Great Benefits, Salary above most competitors

Cons

Network administrator role

Generally I gave out IP addresses and reset passwords, etc. I learned a lot of administrative tasks in an OS 2.11 environment. Management was good but I was considered a consultant when hired through teksystems and co-workers were great. Hardest part of the job was learning more advanced technology, job really didn't offer advancement unfortunately. The most enjoyable part was the co-workers I worked with and simply helping people with IP addresses and resetting their passwords, etc.

Pros

Close drive and good way to learn the environment.

Cons

Was no opportunity for advancement.
