ICMA-RC is a great career move. You can advance after 1 year and able to get a Series 66 and other investment licenses paid by the company. It's a very laid back atmosphere.

Overall Good Company to work for starting out
Operations/Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCApril 23, 2018
ICMA-RC is a good company to work for if you are starting out in your career. It is a smaller company, so you definitely get a more inclusive feeling as opposed to when you work with bigger companies. The staff are friendly and engaging.

Poor HR not professional everything is based off of who you know
Executive Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer (Former Employee) –  DC, DCFebruary 19, 2018
The worst experience in my life. I would not recommend anyone to take the time out to interview at this company. Everything is bias you are told boundaries and certain people to stay in good graces with if you ever want any type of promotion or growth (school, training) your personal information is never kept secret ethically it is wrong but that is the culture at this company. It’s sad but I just say beware save yourself the stress. I was expecting a family like culture and a lot of learning from peer level and management that never happened I was often told wrong information and felt set up but because of my personality I know how to work around that but I should of never had to. Often being reminded that your new and there’s always someone trying to keep you at bay in other words in the dark to insure your unsuccessful at your job

Never again

Good Company with Its Own Issues
Application Developer/Systems Analyst II (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 8, 2018
ICMA-RC is a not-for-profit company specializing in public sector retirement investment. Company is over 40 years old and is going through a redefinition period to update with current markets. Employees should be able to manage their responsibilities and goals within this shifting environment. Overall a good company to work for but does present challenges depending on the personnel an employee must interact with.
Pros
Excellent pay and benefits
Cons
Subject to turf wars within management

It is a place where you can have job security
Senior Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCSeptember 18, 2017
You have to be a pretty bad employee to get fired from ICMA-RC. Many employees there have been there for over 30 years. The work is challenging but not overly challenging. The salary is very fair and the annual bonus program is very good as well.
Pros
Job security
Cons
Can't really think of any

Each division has its own corporate culture
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCSeptember 13, 2017
No cohesive corporate culture exists, each manager/director/division head has a widely divergent kingdom from the other. Lack of clearly defined leadership and vision. No ownership feeling.
Pros
Good location
Cons
Mediocre talent pool. Some managers are allowed to bully while others are allowed to underperform

As with any job there will be challenges, but overall the atmosphere is relaxed. Great benefits and the company is very employee driven. Job advancement depends on skill set.

Everywhere but the call center is good
anonymous (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCApril 17, 2017
the call center is an overly micro managed place where they dont care about service quality or how actual processes impact service quality. They are severely understaffed and over worked. They put bandaids on problems that need surgery.
Pros
overtime is plentiful
Cons
serious micromanaging

Great Place to Work
Advice product Specialist, Guided Pathways (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 23, 2017
Great Place to work. Good Work environment. Great Benefits. A good team of employees to work with everyday. A lot of opportunities for growth in different department if you're interested in furthering your career. Also, you can advance by taking classes that the company will reimburse you for as long as it pertains to your job.

It's Not A Government Job
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 17, 2017
Because there isn't much turnover in upper management there isn't room for growth or innovation.
Very focused on wellness and providing a work culture to include everyone.

Great place for motivated people
Retirement Plans Specialist (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CADecember 30, 2015
If you seek a sales role with tons of autonomy, this is a fantastic place to be. They do the right thing, so from a sales perspective you don't need to be worried about having to push bloated investment solutions. You will be tasked and accountable for hitting goals so if that's not the environment you seek, look elsewhere.

Management is very supportive and the corporate culture is very family oriented. I've never felt so welcomed by higher level execs at corporate meetings before.

Compensation is very fair and I find the benefits to be better than average based on where I have been in the past.
Pros
Tons of autonomy, pay for play environment
Cons
In the field you may have a large territory requiring travel

stay away from their call center
Investor service Specialist- Service (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCNovember 23, 2015
The company itself offers a lot of potential as long as you do NOT begin in "investor services" ie the call center. It's a dead end in that department. You get trained in a whole lot of unmarketable skills that end the end you are left drained and pretty much your morale down the toilet. Turnover is unbelievable and management offfers no real encouragement to move on with any career. The problems seem to stem from a self absorbed barely leadership material director who does nothing but make employees feel like they're slaves and that their well being depends on her. Like a previous reviewer stated it's is a very toxic environment and after a few years your entire spirit can be killed. Nobody cares about their job and really when you are slowly going nowhere why should you . HR doesn't care either yet this is the face of the company.

After a couple yrs Pple simply just leave the dept for the sake of leaving. Not even with a plan. Awful department to work bottom line.

Unprofessional Micro management, poor training, overworked. Don't be fooled by titles here.
Pros
No weeknd hours
Cons
Employee disrespect, no advancement, nepotism, unprofessional
