Child Welfare Specialist in Waukegan, IL
on March 19, 2023
After over a decade of working for IL DCFS in Waukegan, I can say that the work is fulfilling and important. The direct service staff really do care about the families they serve and want to make a difference however, the egos and poor leadership skills of management in the Waukegan office create a hostile work environment and cause for chronic high turnover. DCFS needs to do better at making ef...
Child Welfare Specialist in Illinois

This is a stressful job that's made almost unmanageable by poor supervision. This job feels fulfilling only 30% of the time. Good pay and benefits. You'd think that public service administrators who have decades of experience would be knowledgeable about the department but it appears to be the opposite.
Child Welfare Specialist in Chicago, IL

The overall goal and mission of the department is fulfilling and purposeful but, Lacks Managerial Support. The families and children suffer due to the departments inability to effectively focus on the cases as oppose to departmental drama and personal goals.
Child welfare advanced specialist in Springfield, IL

This position is what you make it. If you are good at time management and organized it is doable and rewarding if not it can be stressful. Helping children and families is rewarding
Day Care Licensing Representative and Child Protection Specialist in Mount Vernon, IL
on October 20, 2022
You have to work and understand that every day will be different and likely unpredictable. You have to be patient and be assertive all at the same time. Be on your toes. Be willing to think outside the box. Not expect to be hand held. It’s a rewarding job but it’s a job that you have to work hard at every day for the benefit of the kids safety and welfare. Retired in 2015.
