Great place to work for an academic setting
Software Architect and Developer (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAApril 4, 2018
People at ISB are creative, outgoing, and very, very smart. They do cutting edge biotech research, and have a stellar reputation in the scientific community. But it is a non-profit and salaries are thus lower than industry standards.

Top level research institution filled with amazing people.
Software Architect and Developer (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAAugust 24, 2016
Overall, the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an amazing place to work. Lee Hood has been a pioneer in biology and has attracted top minds in the field to do cutting edge work. They are literally one of the most prestigious biology research institutions in the world. During my nine years at the ISB, I was fortunate to work with very intelligent, very talented people on a variety of projects.

The culture there represents a good balance between life and work. The atmosphere there is casual, albeit with a high degree of professionalism. People there are motivated to achieve, yet still have time to engage in an atmosphere of mutual learning and support.

Like many academic institutions, they cannot always match industry pay grades, but their benefits package is first rate and atmosphere and mission go a long way to making up for that.
Pros
Top-notch minds
Cons
Less than industry grade pay

Good People working on great things
Sr. Payroll Accountant (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAJune 21, 2016
It's a great company with great people. Very diverse workforce. You are able to work independently with few nudges from management, however they are there when you need them. I like the area the company is located, lots of food trucks and restaurants. There are many times I wish that I had more to do.
Pros
The people, the location
Cons
Would like more pay.

Energetic Visionary Collaborative atmosphere
Research Associate II (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAOctober 29, 2013
ISB is a very relaxed friendly collaborative atmosphere. There are plenty opportunities for career supplementation in research, volunteer, education and pleasure interests. Everyone is forward thinking and the vibe is energetic.
