Low Pay, Advancement is iffy
Program Associate (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCMarch 14, 2018
Low Pay, and advancement opportunities are not based on proficiency of work, but rather how long you have been there. CEO thinks highly of company, based on their review of the company which indicates lack of connection within organization.

As previously stated IIE is good for entry level workers. There is very little room for advancement. There is also little room for development. The benefits package is mediocre.

Program Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYFebruary 6, 2018
After doing a complete redesign of the company, people were given triple the work with no pay increase. The environment is so stress full that they have to have emotional support dogs for the staff.

Global Portfolio Advisor (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 16, 2018
The job itself was not bad at all. I actually really enjoyed the work. However, the department I was assigned to work in had the most unprofessional people and nobody would help me learn the job. I was confused why I was asked to come and help out and there was nobody willing to train me. Very poor management and unprofessional ghetto people worked in my department which was the Global Travel Learning Fund (GTLF).
Pros
You get to communicate with people from all over the world
Cons
Unprofessional and ghetto co-workers.

That was a great position and a dream job, unfortunately, the program was discontinued due to political reasons. The company culture was/is well established and employee-friendly.

IIE maintains its mission of opening minds to the world through higher education.
Payroll Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 23, 2017
IIE continues to have a CEO who is well respected in the industry. I hold him in high esteem for his passion in developing programs benefiting scholars in their drive to excel in their respective fields. However, senior management and the HCM and Finance areas leave so much to be desired in demonstrating their abilities and genuine concern for the betterment of IIE.
Pros
Good benefits competive with other organizations in the industry
Cons
Very heavy company politics which can be intensely crippiling

Program Officer (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCAugust 22, 2017
i worked for over five years in the capacity of Program Officer in the IIE's Washington DC office. No opportunities for professional and career growth. Senior management is not open and direct with their employees and they lack transparent communication and information sharing skills. Overall; this institution is interested in people with hands but not minds for creativity is not approved of, encouraged or supported.
Pros
35 hours work/week
Cons
No professional/career development opportunities

Redesign Nightmare
Program Officer (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCAugust 21, 2017
IIE decided to eliminate all job titles/positions/roles across all of their US and came up with new ones. Employees could apply for 3 jobs during what they called a "Redesign." If you did not receive 1 of the 3 jobs you applied for, you were placed in a position. They did not think through all of the steps of a restructure and many teams are stuck without leaderships or management. Many staff members are still doing their old role and their new role because there is no one to pass previous responsibilities onto because the restructure was poorly planned. Teams are now spread throughout US offices (and even US/International offices), which makes it easier to do any jobs from any office, but it makes team dynamics difficult.
Pros
Good PTO and good benefits
Cons
Low salary, poor management/leadership

Productive workplace and the work gets done
Administrative Coordinator to the VP & CIO of IT (Current Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 3, 2017
Every day is very different. I handle many aspects from arranging meetings, to acting as a liaison between my boss and external and internal contacts, to many forms of project management, and numerous routine administrative functions. I have learned new systems to do a great job with processing the payments for vendors. Management is pretty good, can be a bit mean when ready. The culture here is very diverse due to it being an international organization. The people are very friendly. The hardest part of my job is making sure the coding to payments are correct or we will have to complete journals to get the coding correct. Enjoyable part of my job working amongst other people throughout the entire institute.
Pros
Nice work environment
Cons
Healthcare dosen't get us too far still have topay out of pcoket for some things.

Senior HCM Systems Analyst (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJune 16, 2017
I do not have a comment on this company. I do not see the need to write a review on this company. It is a non-profit organization that is going through reorganization and redesign.

A Corporate Assembly Line With Non-Profit Salaries
Program Officer (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 10, 2017
Boy are they screwing this up. What used to be a pleasant work environment has turned into an unnecessary nightmare due to a "restructure." They are trying to create assembly lines rather than allowing personal oversight of individual programs, which has completely defeated staff who believed in the mission of IIE - to foster international education. Team members with decades of experience were shown the door, resulting in a constantly rotating young staff that keeps having to reinvent the wheel. The pay has always been low, but at least it was a pleasant workplace with a mission. The staff is very diverse… until you get to a certain level of management.
Pros
Good benefits. A friendly, diverse set of co-workers.
Cons
Low pay, no advancement, mismanagement

PART TIME TEMPORARY MANAGER (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 7, 2017
there have been a large number of changes at this organization and the HR department was very difficult to work with. There is a lack of forward thinking showcased by senior management and there is a lot of over corrections made that are not to the benefit of the organization. That all said the mission of the organization is great and if you are on the programs you do great work.
