Growing company
Sr. Category Manager, Indirect (Current Employee) –  Billerica, MAJuly 17, 2018
Isulet is an extremely fast growing company that utilizes a lot of interns and coops to get work done. Promotions from within are rare whereas the preference is to hire from the outside. The avg. employment is less than 2 yrs. Lots of temps and turnover. Work-life balance is not promoted.

Great product . Company has a bright future, but limited advancement opportunities and poor work life balance for clinical staff. Expectations vary depending on location and manager.

good place to work however the customer care department is over worked and understaffed
management is hard to chase down for answers to procedural questions, micro management for the day to day ops but when a new policy comes down management has no idea how to react

It was a temporary position labeling small packages
Warehouse worker (Former Employee) –  Billerica, MAMarch 27, 2018
It was really easy, I think I'd do it if it was permanent. All I really did was label small packages that needed to be relabeled because of an error, that's all
Pros
fridge/microwave/food truck would come sometimes
Cons
none really

Insulet
Senior Operations Analyst (Former Employee) –  Billerica, MAMarch 23, 2018
A typical day at work consisted of multi-tasking multiple projects with various deadlines. Very little support was given if help was needed. Management was concerned with deliverables, as they should, but it was at the expense of the employee performing the duties. Pressure was insurmountable to deliver and the result needed to be perfect. Anything less than perfection was not tolerated.

Health and well being was emphasized as long as it didn't interfere with "continuous improvement". Continuous improvement was the term used as a guise to expect more from an employee on a ongoing basis. Praise and accolades were fleeting and employees feel like a cog in the machine. There was very little time to regroup or ask for help. Any person or group that could help was under the same pressure you were.
On top of a broken culture, the commute was a intolerable and varied by up to 1-3 hours on any given day.
Weather related travel restrictions were a company guideline. It was encouraged that you work from home during inclement weather. Not all departments subscribed to the corporate guidelines.
Pros
Salary and benefits
Cons
Work culture, workload, incapable management, absence of training

Please don't apply through the agency. They are terrible
REIMBURSEMENT SPECIALIST (Current Employee) –  Billerica, MAMarch 21, 2018
i was here for over a year and nothing was ever good enough. The company hires people as temps to do the same jobs as people who are permanent, but don't receive any benefits and are under paid.
Pros
They have good food and you get your own cubicle
Cons
mangement is never on the same page, not flexible, and temps don't bonus.

Work Somewhere Else
Reimbursement Specialist (Current Employee) –  Billerica, MAFebruary 11, 2018
More than half their workforce are temporary employees. People of color are only brought in as temps, you work 6-12 months and maybe you'll become permanent but people of non color are hired directly.
Pros
Free stuff
Cons
Very unorganized, no stability, training is slow

Sr. Reimbursement Specialist (Former Employee) –  Billerica, MAFebruary 8, 2018
Wonderful product helping diabetics. I loved my job but management was brutal & HR incompetent. Went from patient priority to sales priority.

People don't leave jobs, they leave managers.
Pros
Remote from home work capabilities
Cons
Lots of pressure at end of quarter & manadatory overtime. Management is oppressive.

Challenged management culture
Vice President, Finance (Former Employee) –  Bedford, MAFebruary 6, 2018
Management was generally unable to motivate and drive the organization. In part because the management team was disjointed and without a shared vision of the company's mission and priorities.

Don’t judge a book by its cover
Employee (Current Employee) –  Billerica, MAFebruary 2, 2018
From the outside, everything looks great. Good benefits, fantastic product, etc. The inside workings of the company however are broken. Too many people hired too quickly without true need. The management is cut-throat. No real career growth unless your in with the crowd. Company culture is quickly fading.
Pros
Good product
Cons
Company culture is diminishing

Outstanding Product, Clueless Management
Inside Sales (Current Employee) –  Billerica, MAJanuary 16, 2018
The OmniPod Insulin Management system is an outstanding product. The work is rewarding because you are helping patients each day. Unfortunately, the culture of the company is trending in a very negative direction.

The trend has been to eliminate certain roles and positions, add it to the daily work load of existing sales reps and then down the road decide more reps are necessary to carry out the various tasks. With recent company growth, management appears to be more interested in how many inexperienced, poorly trained bodies they can put into chairs at the expense of their most senior, experienced reps..

Daily work load is more than most can successfully carry out in 8 hours and management recently did away with all overtime. No clear cut path for promotion within the inside sales team. Quarterly quotas are extremely high and there is constant pressure to exceed the numbers. Significant pay gap between inside and outside reps with inside reps doing more and more work.. Hopefully leadership will recognize past mistakes and not continue to repeat them before experienced reps leave.
Pros
Great product, truly life-changing for patients
Cons
Inadequate training, increased work load, no path for advancement

I introduced Agile practices to the business and development staff. This was well received and adopted. Our project management tool was Smartsheet, and we administered our stories in JIRA.

The past 2.5 years with the change of management had brought the company morale downward. Management was allowed to belittle and curse at their employees. Extreme micromanaging environment even after work hours.

Overall, Insulet is a very good company to work for with a great product. As the company has grown the work/life balance has shifted, but not in a positive direction.
