Poor management

Fair pay, toxic work environment especially C shift. Manager gets buddy buddy with the laziest employee and allows them to get away with murder while working others to death.

Pros

Won't not Recommend working here

Not a good place to work. There is no communication between the people working on the floor and management. The only thing they care about is there bottom line and reducing cost, doesn't matter what quality of work being done. They don't value you or your time, don't matter how times you bail them out. They rather give work to a contractor then let you do  overtime. The management don't have a clue about the type of work being done and just complane that it's not being done without giving the proper tools and direction. The management talks about teamwork but their sienor guys don't what to teach the new guy. The  work environment is toxic everyone just talk behind each other back and just complane to management about how bad off a worker you are. Would not recommend working here.

Culture Lacking

The people you work with are great, but the leadership is lacking. Big disconnect between management and team culture. High amount of turnover. Projects change frequently.

Pros

Compensation

Cons

Leadership

It's like a roller-coaster, it has its ups and downs.

Your not really trained and the people that do the training have the attitude of not wanting to be there. HR has no answers to give when a question is asked that they should know info on. Management....you have good ones and bad ones. Just wish ones in other departments would stay in thier department. Work is not bad, it's just tedious some days. Coworkers...some work, some don't work, and some just hide most of the day on break.

Not recommended

There are a lot of things about this company that seem great - family owned, smaller organisation (at least in Australia) nice people. However what I would seriously warn anyone who is considering working here is about the management in the IT area. There are managers in this space who do not have basic people management skills and have a complete lack of understanding and compassion for people. I watched several members of my time "let go" and walked out of the building because they "were not performing" or "unhappy". In my opinion management was causing the issues and blaming the wrong people. They would benefits from more self reflection. You can't fire someone for being unhappy, c'mon!

Pros

Zero

Cons

Poor untrained management, Nasty IT Culture, Small IT department behaving as if they know "best practice"

Great benefits, amazing and affordable cafeteria . HQ offices are beautiful.

Great job experience as an opportunity to learn a lot. Great benefits, amazing and affordable cafeteria . HQ offices are beautiful. Positive attitude and hard work is a must, to avoid toxic environment to get your peace of mind. There were a lot of micro-aggressions (bullying), that even though were reported to HR, nothing really was done. The upper management tries to build an inclusive and diverse company. However, there is a lot of work yet to be done on in the middle management and people hired to embrace diversity, such as training, commitment, accountability. Success depends on your good attitude, professionalism, and accountability, despite poor middle management. Not a diverse culture.

Do not work here

the attendance policy is designed for you to fail, they will spend more time trying to fire you then ever trying to help you. management is so awful and top heavy and they hire the least qualified and most undeserving people to lead that place. HR is not your friend they do more against you than ever for you. STAY AWAY FROM SIMPLOT IN POCATELLO!!!!

Pays the bills.

No real job security or seniority here. New hires are given any shift they want, experienced guys are pushed to different shifts. Will be on 3rd manager now, first left for pea plant, taking most of the long term guys. Second took a promotion. No idea who will run the show now. If you use the leave benefits, fellow employees and managers have an issue with it. In short, keep your head down, your mouth shut on anything but work.

Pros

Pizza once in awhile, free fries if others don't load up on them

Cons

Management. Shift work.

Unfair favoritism bad management

Bad management including payroll lady lots of favoritism in this company's location if they see you improving or doing a better job than the person who's been there for years automatically they hate you specially if your the younger one the co workers will be jealous and will turn against you no room for improvement unless your one of the sons supervisor even if you super qualified for the job they stil give it to someone with no skill cause is their family member

Pros

Good benefits specially 401K company is good in that.

Cons

Dead end due to management and co workers. Don't waste your time raises aren't good

Can't beat the PTO package and job security, can beat pretty much everything else.

Pros: Job Security - Pretty much impossible to get fired, you can coast in a job for 20 years and nobody will do a thing.PTO - Lots of PTO, but you can only roll over a week. Leads to a lot of people being gone in December.Cons:Pay - You will be underpaid at Simplot. The saying in the office by everyone is "The best way to get a raise at Simplot is to leave, and come back". This is a common saying, everyone knows that you should leave the company and come back in a few years to get a raise.Management - This company is a white old man run company. They are behind the times, and many departments are led by guys who have worked there for 25 years. It is very difficult to advance because of this, and this creates a hostile environment.Environment- You need to be seen working, otherwise you must not be working. "Family" is thrown around here a lot, but depending on your boss, they may prefer you not see yours to prove your part of the Simplot Family. It is cutthroat for promotions or jobs internally, because that's what management wants for some reason.

12 14hr days salary, very misleading to what was really required

Very clicky Upper management who like to not lead by example.Long days and nights chasing products and substitute ingredients to keep the place running. Doing the Procurement category managers role, no thanks no help or assistance when asked.Being accused of raising my voice when I never said a thing. Being accused of not completing the work from home application when there wasn't one.A total circus. Wasted my career path here on a job that was not anything like what was advertised. With 25 years Procurement experience I am left shaking my head after 2yrs and 8 months.

Pros

Cheap products at staff sales when you know there on.

Cons

Long hours huge amounts of pushbacks, where staff make everything your responsibility and do not take ownership of anything.

With more careers allowing remote work Simplot needs to make an extra effort if it wants to attract talent.

Pros1. Working in downtown Boise is great, you are near the river and plenty of great activities.2. The building itself is new pretty cool to look at, has a cafeteria (although they raised prices by 50% while I was employed)3. Level 4 employees (Level 5 is management and above) and below are all very nice and helpful4. Decent pay and benefits, although that's less the case now that more remote work is available.5. Good work life balance, other than month end you will not likely need to put in any more than 40 hours weeks.Cons1. Things can be quite unorganized, the turnover is very high and management is constantly scrambling to get things assigned and reassigned so it never feels like you tasks are set.2. Moving up is difficult, recruiters and even management like to preach the possibilities but really it'll likely be 4-5 years before you can even dream of moving into management.3. As stated earlier level 5 and above is management, and level 3 is Senior positions. There are very few level 4 positions and some groups have none so you either have to make a two level jump to management or change groups. Adding more level 4 positions would benefit the company.4. On that same note I feel they really only care about your experience at Simplot. Anything you did before got you your current position but is now not important.5. I personally have a CPA which I got while there and no one seemed to care in the least as far as advancement or raises.6. There's a little of a cult like vibe from the whole place, my first few weeks I'd often hear things like "the family wants this -

Very deceptive hr ppl

This is not a workplace for formally trained employees. Managment is deceptive. But the workplace culture is very friendly. This place has a homestyle environment.

Pros

Good pay, lunches provided for overtime, retirement 401k

Cons

Deceptive management, no training

Good money but horrible management

This place has bad management. They need more training on not just how to make the company more money but on how they treat the employees better and not treat them like just another number.

Pros

Long breaks, don’t have to clock out for breaks.

Cons

Smokey inside. Bad air quality and dirty.

Great company and culture. Lacks development of people

You will not find better people work for a company. The culture is amazing, however I never received any development nor did my teammates. Simplot is management heavy. And based on your manager there is a good amount of flexibility
