Jacobs Entertainment is the leading casino company in Colorado. Dependent upon your manager, they provide an excellent work-life balance (at the time of this writing, 11/23/2020). Senior management cares about the success of the company and that of its employees. They answer the call of employees to improve.
Avoid working here. HR takes weeks or even months to respond to inquiries. The vacation time and PTO is heavily regulated. You work on a point system and I hated feeling like I was in grade school again. Poor management and employees are literally all unhappy with their jobs. 10/10 do not recommend.
OK insurance benefits, work parties
No breaks, poor management
This review relates to the lodge property in Black Hawk, CO. The culture of the place seemed pretty good; for the most part all my interactions with fellow employees were super positive. The cons begin with the pay package; as a table games dealer typically casinos will pay you less than your states minimum wage, thanks to some Colorado laws casinos here have to pay you the minimum wage ($8.xx) that’s a mild plus but I know they wouldn’t do it if they didn’t have to. The biggest con is if you are a keep your own dealer you have to give up 20% of your daily tips to the dice crews for their bi-weekly pool. At first it didn’t sound like that bad of a proposition, but the more you do the math you could give away 10k or more in wages over a full year. Employees should not have to pay other employees wages. The company knows that dice dealers don’t make the same as the other dealers and should pay them accordingly. Unfortunately this is common practice for all Black Hawk casinos. The last con I’ll mention is job security, simply because COVID-19 caused a shutdown and dropped revenues to 0 overnight. All employees were furloughed until a limited reopening was available at that point the most senior positions were brought back and everyone else was let go. The company preached wanting to bring everyone back, but clearly wasn’t operating with any reserve cash on hand in case they needed to do something like this. You already pay lower than industry average, and yet somewhere somehow your revenue and your budget bring you to break even. Seems like poor choices being made higher up.
Good culture, friendly staff
Pay, job security

Horrible GM in Carson, yuck. Reminds me of a Wherewolf, and LARGE turnover. Constantly advertising, probably because nobody wants to work with those upstairs people. Horrible atmosphere. Treated horrible. Accused horribly. Yuck. Do not recommend at all not in the least. Apparently has not changed.
They terminate employees on hear say and without cause. They discriminate against who they choose to. It is like going back to elementary school. They've had employees admit to stealing and they are still employed there, but the terminate valuable employees.
Tips for grill amd casino workers

This was a job that anyone could retire from and live good. It was hot some days but the money was really great so you wasn't really worried about the heat like that because you wasn't outside all day.
sometime we would get like an hour and a half lunch break.
This job didn't really have too many bad things about it.
...as long as you are not at the corporate office. The casino environment is a great place to be. The employees are friendly and hard working and the managers work hard to keep everyone included and rewarded for hard work, not just showing up. Corporate management is cold and detached.
Free meals for salaried employees, huge discount for hourly.
Jacobs Entertainment's working environment is very fast paced and very dynamic. It will teach you multiple skills in a short period of time. But, people have been on their chairs for 10+ years as there is not enough room for growth. Poor benefits, long work hours are the cons I can mention at the moment.
Company will take over your life and not pay you enough to compensate for it. No time off! Management throws you out there and it’s sink or swim atmosphere!
Most customers are really nice
Management treats employees badly
