Good people to work with. Low stress levels. Company advises you to take your time-do not rush so as not to damage material or hurt yourself or someone else. Time off requested is never questioned but allowed.

Empty promises
former employee (Former Employee) –  Danville, VAFebruary 11, 2019
Extremely bad management , extremely bad product just a name is what's being sold. Lot's of inner office drama and cliques. Lot's of promises of bonus's and advancement that doesn't happen. Benefits are a joke. They do not care about employee's just profits. Save yourself from being used and wasting your time.
Pros
free lunches
Cons
management, drama, terrible product, poor pay and benifits

Everyone is easy to get along with and makes you feel welcome. You are able to work at your own pace and everyone is willing to help you learn new tasks. They are also very willing to help you with any tasks.

Not worth the headaches
Sales (Former Employee) –  VirginiaNovember 13, 2018
This company could be a lot better. They have been acquiring other dealer networks and growing rapidly, but they mismanage things on several different levels. The communication between the corporate offices and the individual stores is not very good. Some of the higher ups are good people that really try to do things the proper way, but some of them are downright deceitful and result to bullying tactics to try and prove a point.

A lot of talented and motivated people who were capable of great things were often forced or coerced into situations or positions that didn't fit them simply because the people in corporate who really didn't even know the person wanted it to be a certain way....even if that wasn't the best thing for the employee, customers, or the store in general.

Employees or even the customers are not what comes first at James River Equipment. What comes first is profit, market share, and growing faster than the other "box store" equipment companies. The employees and the customers are marginalized and lost in the shuffle of JRE tying to acquire someone else to become even more massive.

Unless a particular person likes you or can manipulate you there is not really any opportunity for advancement. You will be stuck forever where you are without any chance for improvement. You will have a much better experience if you go somewhere else for a career and just stay away from this place.
Pros
Good compensation, always plenty of activity to keep you busy
Cons
Nepotism, business place politics, moral and ethical dilemmas

Service dept admin have poor communication. Only looking to benefit them . Techs were always being micro managed, being blamed for admin problems. Always being over loaded with work unless you was a favorite. Techs not getting recognized for their work they put, no place for advancement.
Pros
Co workers
Cons
Management, salary, favoritism, unorganized.

Very poor management and no respect for employees.
Technician (Former Employee) –  Asheboro, NCFebruary 11, 2018
The coworkers were good and an enjoyable job if you like hands on work. The training is very minimal, most of what you learn comes from coworkers while on the clock and no ‘paid training’ as they advertise, or really any training at all. Managements only concern is the customer and they do not stand behind the employee or take care of them at all. There is no respect or loyalty to the employees from management, they couldn’t care less about them. The service manager didn’t do his job at all and passed it down onto others causing things to get backed up or confused but would always put it on those under him. Management would tell you one thing and then do something completely different. Lots of politics and talking behind people’s backs. Overall not somewhere I would ever recommend to anyone looking for a job.
Pros
Good coworkers, enjoyable hands on work, relaxed time off.
Cons
Poor management, lack of respect and honest, politics.

Always feeling underapreciated and overworked
Service Writer (Current Employee) –  Chester, VAJanuary 11, 2018
In the position I was in, you are required to work 50 hours most weeks with little appreciation for your efforts. The compensation for your time is laughable at best and hard work is rarely rewarded on merit. There is a very tight knit clique atmosphere in the headquarters that hinders people who are very talented at the other locations to advance realistically.
Pros
Coworkers are great, individual branches look out for employees
Cons
Hard work is not rewarded nor acknolwdged in any meaningful way

Technician (Former Employee) –  Toano, VADecember 31, 2017
Good place to work if you are a robot. They are only concerned about how fast something can be repaired based on how long They think it should take. Unrealistic expectations and demands on employees.
Pros
Liberal family leave
Cons
Only concerned with production

Salesman (Full-Time) (Current Employee) –  VirginiaDecember 6, 2017
Get things it writing, but like everything else in life it is what you can make it. I enjoyed most of the days there for the needed pay check, but there was too much misinformation and competition with the manager.
Pros
Decent work environment
Cons

Service Technician (Former Employee) –  Ashland, VASeptember 27, 2017
Good place to work if you don't mind getting dirty. Great atmosphere and a great group of people to work for. As long as you don't mind working hard then this is the place for you. The opportunity to operate equipment and meet customers is very rewarding.

Stay Away
Employee (Current Employee) –  New Bern, NCJune 17, 2016
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this organisation. They are very top heavy they say they are employee driven until but mostly lies. Co-Workers were great, benefits are fair at best but they will cost you in the end. If they don't like you as a person even when you go above and beyond for your customers they will find a way to let you go with out any reason.
Pros
Didn't complain when time off was needed, great co-workers at that location
Cons
Poor facilities, upper management, lack of mutual respect

Outside Sales (Former Employee) –  Salisbury NCApril 30, 2015
For the most part employees were hard working and easy to get along with. Everyone seemed willing to help out with any issue that may arise. There was never a typical day, could be selling one day, service the next, and deliver another. To me the most enjoyable part of my job was going out and seeing the customers and solving issues they may have.
