Do not work here
Counselor (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COJuly 8, 2019
Place is horrible. Staff are trash, management are trash, the program is trash. Staff always feel the need to show up 1 or 2 hours late for their shifts every weekend. Both places to work at are horrible and they are always short staffed. The pay sucks and can barley make enough to pay all your bills. they are starting at 14 an hour, but the pay is not worth it for the type of kids and stress you deal with. I rather eat a bowl of diarrhea, than work at Jefferson hills. I rather work in a dumpster as trash than work at Jefferson Hills. Kids are always abusing drugs and no client is being held accountable, staff do not get held accountable either. Dangerous place to work at folks. Staff are incompetent and are always getting into power struggles with the clients. Kids run the facility and staff cannot really do much when trying to manage the unit. Place is sickening because its toxic on the highest level. I know other jobs can be toxic, but nothing beats this trash of a place. Please do not work there, please.
Pros
Good relationships with kids
Cons
place is trash, just trash

Difficult but rewarding
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COJune 26, 2019
Working with kids was rewarding, however management is unstructured and communication between departments/staff was difficult. Management is unsupportive. The environment is highly stressful due to the potential of physically managing volatile kids.
Pros
Rewarding working with kids
Cons
Unsupportive management. Low pay.

management do not care about staff safety nor stability. Company has an high turnover rate in regards to the residence and the staff. No annual raises or advancement within the company. Lies are constantly being told from the management team. If you don't have no other options and have exhausted all resources then apply here because they are always hiring due to low staff but don't expect much and the pay is below any paygrade that you are worth.

Avoid at all cost
Counselor (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COMay 7, 2019
I enjoyed my coworkers and my unit manager but, upper management is the worst. The job wasn't that hard as I overnight. It's just management that don't want the best for their employees. Long story short, Its NOT the clients or your coworkers. It's the facility which is unsafe and quite frankly unsanitary AND upper management.
The hardest part of the job was getting clients to comply but, once you build rapport its much easier to get them to do what you want but, you can't build rapport effectively with supervisors looking over your shoulders and criticizing your every move.

Disappointing
Counselor (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COMay 6, 2019
I worked as a milieu counselor at Jefferson Hills for years. I loved most of the staff. The problem is management. It seems like they're always looking for a scapegoat. Whenever they mess up, they desperately hunt around for a floor staff to blame and yell at until that staff is in tears. If managers don't like your personality your job is at serious risk. The pay is extremely unfair and you don't get paid more for having a degree. The pay is completely arbitrary, and the HR department is horrible. The Colorado Department of Labor doesn't get involved with nonprofit organizations, so employees are stuck. People stay for the kids and their team, but it's best to walk around to the time clock to punch in and out so that a manager won't see you walk by their office and pull you in to yell at you. Some managers treated me well but two of them were intolerable. I left crying three times in one week because of the way a manager started treating me. The kids are not the problem. It's always management, and it's a shame, because I loved the people I worked with on the floor. Turnover is crazy, and the managers will blame staff for it, because they're worse than the kids at taking accountability for their mistakes. It's just a frustrating, depressing place to work. It was time for me to go.
Pros
The kids and most staff
Cons
pay discrimination, biased management

It’s not worth it!!
Milieu Counselor (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COMay 3, 2019
Working three days a week is the only PRO this company has to offer.. THE PAY IS NOT WORTH THE STRESS YOU WILL ENDURE! Due to the lack of Mental Health facilities around the United States the “State of Colorado” allow Jefferson Hills to sweep some many problems associated with this facility under the rug! There’s no support from upper management! They’ll rather throw you under the bus. Both facilities are always short and your life is always in danger. Rules are set in place but the the kids refuse to follow them! The kids basically run the facility.. Most upper management and staff like to avoid conflict so they let the kids get away with so much! They supposed to have a certain criteria on the kids they can and can not accept but they never follow it, due to being money hungry! Since my time with JH I’ve seen plenty of staff attacked. The staff is beyond messy! It’s like going to high school all over again.. Certain staff run in clicks and if you’re not involved in that click they’ll do or say anything to get you fired! Honestly this company is not worth putting on your resume! Save yourself some time and DO NOT APPLY!
Pros
3 day work week.
Cons
Everything!!

Good foot in the door, but not a career
Counselor (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COApril 17, 2019
Right out of school or relocating it's a good start, but as far as a career and a well-paying job, this is not it. Disorganized and too many people are forced to wear too many hats. After three years I only made 35,000/yr. My department was ok, but management and unit restructuring can at times be unsafe and unsupportive. During my time here I was able to do many different things, and I learned a lot about teams...good and bad.
Pros
Some staff are cool
Cons
Unethical Management

Milieu Counselor (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COApril 12, 2019
The work is hard but can be very rewarding. Very frustrating that basic needs like a working copier, and daily supplies always seem to be running short. Upper management seems disconnected from what is happening on the floor. There is a very high turnover of mental health counselors which makes consistentcy hard and being fully staffed very hard.
Pros
Can be very rewarding
Cons
Stress and safety issues

dirty, understaffed, poor communication and management
milieu counselor (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COMarch 27, 2019
This place is good if you are trying to get experience in the mental health field, HOWEVER, it is extremely understaffed which is dangerous for the type of job this is, it is not safe when you don't have enough support due to clients having high suicidal ideation and aggressive behaviors, management does not care and does not incorporate any of the feedback staff have given, upper management does not care about the facility, if you were to be put on an M1 this is the last place you'd want to go. there is a lack of communication and consistency from staff from different sides of the week so clients are able to manipulate situations to their advantage. There is so many things that need improvement and this place is hanging on by a thread, they basically only care about making money and DO NOT put clients mental health and wellbeing first, they admitted a 5 year old child who was high risk for sexualized behaviors and needed constant support from staff at the same time they were trying to admit a 17 year old super aggressive client who we knew would need to be constantly restrained on a day we were SEVERELY understaffed, they did not care.

the days off

everything else

Don't waste your time.
Milieu Counselor (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COMarch 26, 2019
Jefferson Hills is a horrible place - upper management does not care, and they make it very clear! (good luck getting an answered email, ever) There is a clique culture among staff that is worse than the one among the teenage clients. You do not get support even though it is desperately needed. You do not get a break unless you smoke tobacco. Kids who are at the facility are so disrespectful it's baffling. You will be understaffed, underappreciated, underpaid, and overworked. The place is FILTHY, dark and depressing, and has been for years yet nothing is done about it. There are rats, giant spiders, and who knows what else crawling around in there And let's not forget the creepy secret apartment in the ceiling. The kids don't get the support, tools, attention, or anything, that they need to have any improvement in their lives whatsoever. Turnover rate is so high here; it's comical.
Pros
3 days on 4 days off

literally everything else

Teacher's Aide (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COFebruary 2, 2019
One individual's experience does not determine what another individual's experience will be, so anyone looking to work in this capacity should do their due diligence to find out what the culture/environment is like and decide for themselves if that agency/company is a place they would like to work.

Meilu staff (Current Employee) –  Aurora, COJanuary 31, 2019
This place can be extremely stressful at times. Management will ask for staff in put or filling out surveys about the job but nothing changes. Turnover is extremely high, that can make the place severely unsafe because the staff to resident ratio is never where it should be legally for a facility. Staff is constantly attacked by residents rather it's verbally or physically and other staff won't help or report issues, management won't either.
Pros
Free meal
Cons
Poor management, not enough staff, over worked under paid

Do Not Work Here
Milleu Counselor (Former Employee) –  Aurora, COJanuary 30, 2019
JH does not train Milleu counselor wells for many reasons. For example, I shadowed two shifts and I was told that I would learn everything about the facility but instead I stood there and learned nothing. Kids are extremely disrespectful, staff is afraid of restraining kids, and kids bascailly run this facility. Going to work was dreadful and never felt safe in the facility. Your day goes well depending on your supervisor you have but some supervisors let the kids do whatever they wanted so there was no way to enforce any kind of rules. Kids would do things that were not right and there would be no consequences. There is a lot of staff who just wants to be friends with the kids and it gets to the point where these kids won’t respect you or follow any kind of protocol.
Pros
Free lunches, flexible schedule (if oncall )
Cons
No breaks, not enough pay, do not train you well, unsafe

Not very creative
Mental Health Counselor (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COApril 17, 2018
Arrived 30 minutes early to get a verbal report on patients from the day before. Read charts on patients admitted to the unit. Prepared lessons for the patients for the day. Processed admissions and discharges of patients. Completed charting for each patient I worked with that day.
I learned that different ways this facility meets the needs of there patients they serve.
Management could benefit from improving there communication skills.
The culture held knowledge, belief, some morals, they followed the law set forth by the standards set by state and government.
The hardest part of the job was the Psychologists and Social workers did not take a more active roll in there patients treatment.
The environment was dirty and the materials needed for me to do my job was not available.
Pros
They did provide meals for staff.
Cons
Breaks were not available

Provider Liaison (Current Employee) –  Lakewood, COApril 6, 2018
Overall this is not a bad company to work for. Unfortunately the environment is one of self gain, instead of adults working together as a team to serve a greater purpose.
