Wonderful place to learn, few growth opportunities, short-term job
Practice Assistant (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCMay 1, 2019
While Jenner & Block is a great place to begin ones working life, the opportunities for improvement and skill gain rapidly run out. Within six months, a competent college graduate can learn everything there is to know about being a Practice Assistant here, and will then realize there is nowhere further to grow. In the DC office at least (for the culture varies wildly among offices), there is little to no incentive for support staff during the first three years of employment. Holiday bonuses will be pro-rated for the first three years, pay will be low and yearly salary increases will come late and be almost negligible on a paycheck, and hard work will be rewarded with increased assignments and responsibilities that have very little to do with the job you are supposed to be doing -- and for which you will not get credit. Although Jenner & Block is a wonderful training course in an of itself for how to gain solid administrative training and learn how a corporate office environment functions, as a Practice Assistant you may find yourself wanting to move forward in ways that the structure of this firm simply will not allow.
Pros
Yearly staff appreciation celebration, holiday bonus, transit benefits
Cons
Lacks growth opportunities

Decent place to work with no possibility of advancement
Staff Attorney (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 10, 2018
Jenner & Block has good workplace culture and nice people, but employees are hired for specific jobs and there is no room for advancement. Management is (understandably) focused on cost cutting, but sometimes resources needed to do an effective job are cut or eliminated.

Legal Secretary & Secretary Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILSeptember 1, 2018
A typical work day would be assisting attorney in administrative work. Hardest thing about my day was deadlines and trying to not miss my train ride home. Most enjoyable part was the people that worked there.
Pros
Salary, people and vacation and personal time
Cons
4 hours commute

Coordinator/Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 3, 2017
The work is taken very seriously and therefore the atmosphere does not lend itself to much camaraderie. It is a busy environment and so the day usually feels like it flies by. .

Jenner's workplace culture rewards loyalty and hard work. Management encourages communication and provides regular feedback. Jenner is an enjoyable place to work as long as you understand and accept internal hierarchy.

Project Assistant (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILSeptember 12, 2016
Great corporate environment, but management is terrible and very little training is done to coach the responsibilities given for a position. My department did not have me train in my position and were very keen on keeping secrets, which ultimately led to discord within the department.

This job was a lot of fun and also a great learning experience. I worked for several attorneys and all were very good to me. We were definitely a great team.

Intern (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILMay 26, 2014
Fun and wonderful co workers, everybody has there own work space, however, everyone would be more then happy to work with one another and help each other. Yes day by day I would do something new but that was the fun part all those new challenges. Sometimes one was all into working that we would forget about the time. Friendly environment!
