Good if you know what you're getting into
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) –  Gainesville, VAJuly 27, 2018
Don't ever expect management to stick their neck out for you.

Although the job culture is fantastic and everyone is very sociable, you will occasionally have days where a logistics nightmare keeps you late. Sometimes up to 4 hours. While you are compensated for this time you have no say in staying if you value your job, and you will get almost no notice that you won't be done until 10pm.

If you don't mind the prospect of working extra hours for more pay with no notice, this is the job for you

It was a fine summer job.
Moving Helper (Former Employee) –  Sterling, VAMay 22, 2018
There was a lot of manual labor for Household movers, but the co-workers were more personable and understandable. The work for Commercial was slow, boring, and the co-workers were less friendly. It seemed to me as though the management and administration would try to take advantage of the movers and drivers whenever they could make some more money by overscheduling when they could. If you get in with a driver or supervisor who likes you, you will have as many hours as you want.
Cons
Manual labor in summer heat.

Systems Engineer (Former Employee) –  Sterling, VAJanuary 30, 2018
There is a variety of work in IT area. Always something to learn in supporting or improving the infrastructure. Management is OK, and workplace culture is good. It`s a multinational company, and for me there was not a good experience communicating with some. Overall it`s a great company

Move Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Sterling, VANovember 18, 2017
It is a good place to start, but once you feel that you got experience move on. Lack of communication and stabbing people in the back are champions. Weak training structures, team work, and management are more derective than supportive.

Easy hiring process

Intern - Government Services and Move Management (Former Employee) –  Sterling, VAOctober 4, 2017
This company allows you to interact with customers consistently, with a constantly changing day-to-day. As with any moving company, you will find that the work is incredibly intensive during summer months, then dies down in the off season dramatically.

Continuously Growing Company
Administrator (Current Employee) –  Sterling, VASeptember 26, 2017
JK is currently growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, the infrastructure to support this growth is way behind the curve. Systems are disjointed and don't communicate. There is a lot of duplication of work and manual processes in the back office that lead to inefficiencies and mistakes.

They will in time, likely get this fixed, but the systems need a major overhaul.

Employee (Former Employee) –  Sterling, VAApril 14, 2017
Brag about being the best and most expensive, pay way less than the competitors, will lock you into an agreement on day one keeping you from going to any other local company
Pros
Clean equipment, crews are mostly nice and welcoming
Cons
Management argues with each other in front of you, pay is low, benefits are too expensive, operations director is loud mouthed and yells at employees for no reason. Horrible hours

Senior Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Sterling, VASeptember 29, 2016
I worked at JK for one year and I enjoyed working there as an account executive for the most part. It is a bit of a gruling job to be in sales for JK because of the amount of time it takes to be the prospecting, and meeting with prospects, walking all of the spaces and doing your own estimates and being on hand for 6am sales meetings. Its truly a young mans game.
Pros
Great company, great culture, great benefits.
Cons
work/life balance is challenging based on the job requirements.

A solid and growing organization
VP Marketing (Current Employee) –  Sterling, VAJune 23, 2016
In my role at JK Moving Services (and its sister company, CapRelo), I collaborate with virtually every department and business unit in the company. Marketing acts as a "shared service" across the enterprise (similar to HR, Accounting, IT and others).

I had never worked in the transportation/relocation/logistics industry until I accepted my position at JK. Having had experience primarily in technology and publishing, I didn't know what to expect.

What I have experience in my 5+ years at JK has far exceeded any expectation. The enterprise is well-run, with management that cares for its employees, their professional development, and their well-being.

The training opportunities are almost limitless and the company prefers to promote/advance from within. I have witnessed numerous employees be promoted, take new opportunities in other departments, and thrive in a new role that took advantage of their inherent skills and interests. The company is dedicated to having "the right people on the bus, in the right seat."

The company also shows great interest in employees' personal well-being. Just a few of the benefits that demonstrate this: flu shot clinics, on-site farmer's markets, confidential employee assistance program (EAP), and voluntary smoking cessation and weight management programs.

The moving/relocation/logistics industry may not sound "sexy." Working for a solid, financially-sound, growing company that invests in its employees - that is VERY appealing!
Pros
Excellent training and advancement opportunities
Cons
Managing employee healthcare costs is a challenge (and not unique to JK)

Mover (Former Employee) –  Sterling VAMay 12, 2015
This job is for those who don't need mental stimulation to be happy. The management is great to work with and positive, however the ground level employees are not greatest to be around.
Pros
Paid commute
Cons
No breaks, disgruntled employees, variable work hours, inconsistent schedule.
