Cashier in Sterling, VA

The people there were very kind and understanding! As a cashier (under 18) I would mainly ring people up for non fabric items and to put away unused fabric. If you are under 18 you cannot cut fabric which is a big part of what people come there for. While it was nice working there, there wasn’t much to do since people were mainly buying fabric.

If you are looking for a side gig to make some extra money, I guess this wouldn't be a bad job. Otherwise, personally, I wouldn't suggest it at all. I thought it would be a good place to work since my love for crafting, but really they are like any other big corporation out there. Corporate doesn't value their employees despite being what makes the whole company run. It's retail; you're gonna have those snarky customers who get angry at you for things outside your control. I got hired on at minimum wage in my state. Personally, all the stuff you have to put up with is not worth what they pay you. I worked there for 8 years and the couple store managers I had said that I was a valuable employee, but when I put in my 2 weeks, they never offered me a higher wage or tried to get me to stay. Overall, the company doesn't care about their employees whatsoever and the wage they pay you is definitely not worth the work they make you do.

Learn about new crafts while also educating customers about the ones you enjoy. Management has great communication and understanding. Everyone works as a team.
Cashier/Team Member in Henderson, NV

Working part time was nice at times, there is a 30% discount for employees. However due to the quitting of several seasonal and normal team members, the work load became overbearing. Having to work the phones, customer service, and be the only person at most times ringing 8+ people in line. The manager would be unavailable as they would be helping the fabric counters line go down, which filters to the cashier line.

Coming in as an external hire, can be overwhelming. There are reports on top of reports. Hours for employees are non-existent. Plus environment for external hires can be toxic. Work isn't hard, but the reporting to corporate for each step of every project is bothersome. They have cornered the market on micromanaging.
