Terrible company with terrible management.
Co-Manager/Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) - Manchester, CT - September 23, 2023
Terrible company with terrible management. The company doesn’t care the least about its employees and upper management picks favorites no matter the situation.

It's an okay job.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Murray, UT - September 21, 2023
During my time at journeys sales associates would steal other associates sales without telling others. Managers didn't know what they were doing. The environment was very cliquey. Very stressful for just getting paid 8 dollars an hour. Lied to me about making commission, I thought I was, but turns out I wasn't.
Pros
Good discount
Cons
Pay

What is the best part of working at the company? the managers get 40% off but sales associates only get it on items their size What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Unrealistic goals. Being an aggressive seller What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Demeaning and unrealistic expectations What is a typical day like for you at the company? Sales goals need to be met and if not exceeded.

Fun work place, bad pay
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Sarasota, FL - September 20, 2023
It was kinda mid. So they hire at minimum wage which isn’t too shocking but we do make commission. The commission is kind of a slap in the face though. The location I was at was super toxic and we would have to fight for our lives to make our sales goals or our hours would get cut. If you’re working shipment you’re expected to still make your goals somehow.

Nope.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Christiana, DE - September 19, 2023
Don’t work here. The managers will swoop in and take all of your sales to earn commission. Your time will get abused during the holiday season and then you’ll be left high and dry with hardly any hours any other time of the year

Jobs at Journeys
Low pay and high expectations
Sales Lead (Former Employee) - College Station, TX - September 14, 2023
They pay minimum wage with commission for sales lead and higher. Good as a temp job but not long term. SOPs are difficult to maintain and you get graded monthly. If your scores are too low you’re put on probation

Eh
Co-Manager/Store Manager (Former Employee) - Fort Wayne, IN - September 14, 2023
Loved my coworkers. District manager isn’t great, basically her way or no way. They bend the rules when they want or to get their way. Made a lot of friendships here but the company as a whole isn’t great. The store employees deserve better. Pay is trash. You only can make commission during Christmas time. It is enjoyable with the right people

Fun as a first time job.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Anchorage, AK - September 12, 2023
Management is usually all teenagers or adults who act like children. The quotas are solely based on who gets to the customer first and if they're willing to spend over $50 on a single pair of shoes, and $20 on a single pair of low quality socks. The people you work with will usually be kind and all around the age 16-25. The hardest part of the job was trying to convince customers to buy products and lying to them about the quality of said product.
Pros
Kind co workers and easy access to food
Cons
short lunches, unsafe work spaces and unfair opportunities for promotion

Not a good time
Store Manager (Former Employee) - Grove City, PA - September 12, 2023
It’s honestly a joke. No work- life balance. Pay is not that great. Weekly was nice. But other than that, it’s full of drama no matter your position. The higher ups love to gossip and tell all of your personal business that they have nothing to do with, to other store managers. Petty overall. Job did not let me have a social life, quick burnout.

Overstaffed
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - New Jersey - September 8, 2023
I was only ever put on once a month, twice at most. Honestly I just don’t recommend working there unless you know the management is organized and not lazy

Fun environment, Competitive but friendly
Sales Lead/Key Holder (Former Employee) - Columbus, OH - September 7, 2023
Loved my coworkers, we had a special team. Managers were very supportive and encouraging to me and my co workers. No much room for career development. Pay was not livable.
Pros
Family, Enjoyed work
Cons
Pay, benefits, Job growth

Fun but underpaid
Co-Manager/Store Manager (Former Employee) - Manchester, CT - September 7, 2023
Fun environment and fine if you don’t have to support anyone besides yourself, but not enough pay to sustain a family even as a manager. Don’t work at one in a low volume mall though. There are goals you need to hit.

Management can be a trap
Store Manager (Former Employee) - Victor, NY - September 6, 2023
Customers can be great and so can the environment with the right team. But the pay for management is horrible depending on the store. When sales are low, so is your pay. It's all commission based in management. And if sales are low due to lack of Customers. They blame you and your teams work ethic. Rather than the fact that Customers aren't coming in or buying. If sales are down, you work way more. Can't give out hours unless the team is killing it. Support from the DM is a joke. Acknowledged not properly supporting me during and after training. But then used me as a scapegoat for issues that already existed. That multiple others referenced as well. My co and leads all left after me. If it's not the Greece mall don't bother.
Pros
Relaxed dress code
Cons
Poor pay structure, Terrible management, horrible schedule, shady coworkers

Decent Company
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Aventura, FL - September 5, 2023
The company is a great workplace, but the work-to-pay ratio is not great. The company gives you a large workload and expect you to have everything done.
