Textbook mismanagement of a good idea
I was part of the massive layoff in Jan 2016 that cut the company in half. Sadly, I had been on the job less than 60days. During that 60 day period, exec mgmt spent lavishly on a retreat to Vegas and hired like wildfire but then sheepishly revealed that their Customer Acquisition Cost was dramatically too high. As a result the next round of funding - more ... either didn't come in or was conditional on a full re-org. and that's how you end up laying off more than 40%of your company during a single phone call.
