There needs to be more open communication from upper management to lower management. The company should never assume that all employees know what's going on, but make clear statements about what is happening. Reviews and general financial information (Sales, Revenue, Forecasting, etc.) should be presented and/or made accessible for employees. Team building and employee appreciation events should be created to encourage employees. Salaries should also be adjusted for the NYC market.
