Compared to other places I've taught or applied, the KU approach to hiring is much more about teaching. No questions about research or publishing. There's at least one test teach, and a lot of discussion about the culture and expectations. After I started working, I realized with the small teams, it's essential that new faculty fit in with the team and goals. Read the mission statement - KU truly embraces it.
