Work & Life Balance

Reviews

Assistant Director in Kansas City, MO
on May 3, 2021
Overworked and underpaid
Working at Kids quest as an assistant director I was on call 24/7, and that was not conductive to a work/personal life balance since they were open 365 days a year and I was often called in on my days off. Supposed to get one weekend off a month and that rarely happened. Pay was minimal for the amount of work I put in.

I have worked at Kids Quest and Cyber Quest for a few years. Everyone on the team becomes your second family and the management team works with you and not over you. It is a fast-paced environment so there is a lot of multitasking. You do of course have other job duties like cleaning up messes and customer/parent interactions but it's mostly playing and interacting with children! You get to interact with a lot of children at once so using your imagination and having a creative mind is important too! And If you are looking for a long-term position, there is always an opportunity to move up with this company, they love to promote from within.

Honestly the place wasn’t bad. You get regular kids and you build nice memories and experiences with these kids. The regulars and the kids kept me around. I was upfront most of the time. So I got the bad end of everything. I felt with parents who lost lots of money on the casino floor and would be mad at me for it. I have had pens thrown at me. I have had parents try to fight me over the counter. I delt with a lot from the customer experience aspect of it. But the kids kept me coming back. I worked there for over two years. I also have to say management wasn’t the best either. They always took the parents side so you would get “talked to” and it felt like business was more important. I struggled to advance within the two years which means I was stuck at the same pay rate of $9.00 an hour.

OverallFun to work there but too many conflicting manager ideas. One says do this, the other say do that. Gets nerve racking. Also not really room to advance up because managers only hire their friends for higher positions

I absolutely loved working at kids quest and even changed my college major because of it, but the pay is just not worth all the work we do with these kids. The staff is friendly and management always does their best to eliminate tension or workplace drama. Management was always on floor with us when possible and teammates are always willing to help one another when needed.
