Customer Service Associate in Mason, OH

In terms of enjoyment, it ranks last between the 4 other entry level jobs I had. If the pay and benefits were not so outstanding I’d go elsewhere in a heartbeat. Leaders and supervisors are all basically children (a vast majority being 20 or younger) because no sane adult wants the massive addition of responsibilities for $.50 more an hour. One leader tried to force me to work during my unpaid break. Very very very uptight about rules and presentation. Hurts my soul to have to throw away completely perfect untouched food after a customer’s card declines. Policies are just too much and you come home from work completely drained for the rest of the day. Also being forced to “upsell” (aka push onto customers) coke products or risk getting written up was uncomfortable.Money was great and I really enjoyed the free pass and extra tickets to any Cedar Fair park. Free drinks and cheap food at the employee cafe was good too.

Not a good experience working at kings island. Sure the pay was good but nothing else was really good about it. You had to work in the scorching heat which wasn’t very nice. The management there was very poor. Very bad at communicating. I said around 7 times that I was 15 and couldn’t do certain things but they made me do them any way.

Ride Operator, Area Supervisor in Mason, OH
on May 26, 2022
Kings Island was a wild ride of some of the best and worst memories I have ever had with a job. I started with ride operations and formed relationships with many of my coworkers. In fact, most of us are still good friends to this day. However, the management had a tendency to be extremely toxic. The biggest issue with the Rides Department was favoritism. The only chance you had at being promoted was by sucking up or being best friends with one of the other supervisors. If you weren't part of their clique, there was a slim chance that you would ever advance farther than just being an associate. Many employees on the supervisory team tended to be extremely rude and not understanding of any concerns you may have. The Rides Department wasn't the only Department in the park with toxicity. In fact, I would confidently say that the upper management at the park as a whole was extremely toxic. It seemed as though every "gold tag" (upper management staff) had a tendency to be power hungry. They would knock you down every chance they get.Listen, Kings Island was an amazing place to work at when I started because my coworkers made it fun. We made every day a great day when we could and tried to not let management get to us. As time has gone on, I personally believe the park has lost the magic it once had. What used to be a place I could go to for thrills and nostalgic memories is now a place that just reminds me of some of the horrible people that run it.
HR Trainer in Mason, OH
on May 9, 2022
I like the group of trainers I worked with, I liked being able to interact with so many employees on a personal level. I appreciated the ability to work in an area and capacity that was related to my education. What I didn't like, the pay is not competitive and ultimately for me, not worth the drive. I spoke to many employees that were not able to complete their shifts because supervisors didn't understand how to properly manage a schedule, regularly sending them home very early (not worth the drive or bus ride). This often had a tremendous impact on minority groups. Additionally, many members of HR would benefit significantly from frequent DEI training.
