Project Accountant (Former Employee) –  La Jolla, CAMay 7, 2018
Finance was great in term of giving me exposure to GAAP, US accounting, journal voucher, fixed asset and other.
In term of management, this is not a great department: lots of turn-over and really poor manager
Overall, I felt that the spirit/culture of the company (Family first) switched to money first

Pure research environment with incredibly smart people
Research Associate (Current Employee) –  La Jolla, CAApril 11, 2018
Have been with LJI for almost 2 years. It is an academic institution so with that comes both pros and cons.

Benefits being the work life balance is excellent. There are wonderful holiday parties and happy hours once a month. Most people I work with are wonderful and eager to learn.

Cons being compensation is that of an academic research institution. You could make much more in the same position in industry.
Pros
Great work life balance, intelligent diverse people work here
Cons
Low pay

Research Technician III (Current Employee) –  La Jolla, CAJune 27, 2012
Great place to work with some options for advancement.
Depending on the PI work is flexible and social with other people throughout the institute.
Pros
cutting edge research in immunology and allergy, great benefits program, monthly happy hours, fairly laid back and social among all of the labs, near the beach and ucsd, flexible work hours (although this depends on the lab you work in)
Cons
lower salary then biotech, may have to come and work on the weekends, limited ability for advancement, no cafe onsite of the institute
