Favoritism for top sellers. Special rules made for them. Policies only loosely followed.
Decorative lighting consultant (Current Employee) – Fair Oaks, CA – December 5, 2018
There is a lot of favoritism for the top sellers. They didn't have to follow the same rules as the rest of the crew. They were not required to do anything other than sell. Everyone else was required to do the grunt work(cleaning, stocking bulbs, returns and exchanges) which takes us away from the sales floor. Meaning we lost sales.
Management would change the rules whenever they felt like it. One week they would say one thing, then the next week you go to do the same thing and you are chastized for doing it. Always short handed and we are required to clean up the problems other employees or corporate has created.
There is no itemized list of which order we are being paid for and what returns were being deducted. There is a guarantee paid of $16.50 an hour, but the way they create it is so confusing you are not sure what you are being paid for. When asked payroll dept refuses to go over and explain. They say to ask our manager but, the answers they provide are inadequate. Next step was ask the district manager, who got upset and said they were not hiding anything from us. They were asked for clarification, not being accused.
In homes consultations are a free service we offer. Only a few employees would do them. They encourage us to do them, but are not given any time to create the design for customer.
Benifits are horrible. Insurance for more than one person is the majority of a paycheck.
Lack of proffesionalism. Top sellers throw temper tantrums on the sales floor. Yelling at other employees and refusing to go to the back to discuss the issues. Again topmore... sellers not chastised for this. Crying and pouting is common too.
Sabotaging other salespeople's sales. I have never worked in a place that has so little professionalism and ethical behavior.
The customers are, for the most part, polite and friendly. They are actually the best part of the job.
The company has good prices, variety and quality products.less
Great products. Most of the customers are friendly and polite.
Company has potential if werent for poor leadership
Account Manager (Current Employee) – Chatsworth, CA – January 3, 2019
High stress due to poor leadership and extreme micromanagement. Managers have poor people skills and create a very negative work environment by continuously interrogating and belittling you. Constantly monitoring all of your emails and phone calls just to be questioned and graded and potentially robbed of bonuses. Personally experienced and witnessed other team members being yelled at and treated like children. I have witnessed several employees brought to tears over the course of my employment. Several complaints made against management with HR with no action, allowing them to continue this behavior. Newly introduced policies have cause every team member to make less money than the years prior, some substantially less. Politics is a sideshow in this company. Many team members have been forced to leave the company or change departments in order to escape the abuse.
Poor managment and poor pay when comparing income to margins made
Sales associate (Former Employee) – Fair Oaks, CA 95628 – January 1, 2019
The company is a mess, they don't train you right at all, they went through 3 managers upon working they are not reliable and completely disorganized. They don't care about their employees at all or their schedules and they go back on their word of school schedules. I quit the job and was not happy there at the fair oaks ca location I would not recommend anyone to work for them. They need to get their stuff in order.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Chatsworth, CA – November 25, 2018
Worst place to work ever. Every day consisted of bullying, favoritism, ridiculously unrealistic expectations, forced to work OT on the spot. I learned this is the place to work if you enjoy being belittled and humiliated. Employees very kind, management absurd. The hardest part of the job was beginning my shift with dry eyes. The work in itself was minimally enjoyable. No time off from 11/1 - 01/01 no exceptions. My work experience with Lamps Plus was a living h*ll / nightmare, the stress was ungodly.
Customer Service Rep/ Administrative Assistant Rep (Former Employee) – Ventura, CA – September 27, 2018
I really enjoyed working at Lamps plus. I was just unfortunate that at the time I had to care fro things at home. Coworkers and management were amazing, professional, competitive, willing to teach, and every day was a bit different than the previous day. Training was another thing that was great because they made sure we were constantly learning how to stay in touch with the customers as well as with the stores policy.

Store management seems to get little support from upper management. If store level management is too uncomfortable to pass employee suggestions on to upper management, how will anything improve for those of us who truly make the company successful? Store level management needs to provide more input to upper management and THEY NEED TO LISTEN!!!
Data Entry (Current Employee) – Chatsworth, CA – August 15, 2018
This Company is not what you but who you know to move up. There is a lot of Favoritism amongst managers. They do not value Employees that actually do the job well and promote people that are relatives or same race. Specially in Internet Processing the Managers overwhelm you with more work that what your assigned. Most Employees leave for medical because they get stressed.
Certified Decorative Lighting Specialist (Current Employee) – Pleasant Hill, CA – July 9, 2018
If you have business background, you love to work. They train fantastic and give you certificate. There benefits are very good. Full commission after you stable in sales, and it depends between 3 to 12 months. For first 3 months hourly and after base and commission. Our manager is very fair about that. Work in commission is stressful and competitive environment but becouse always busy, then always have chance to find good sales plus you get good training to grow up.
Training, Manager, Co- workers
