It’s nice to work remote, but…
I love being able to work remotely and have that freedom that comes with it. However, I very much agree with other reviews of feeling micromanaged - especially with call reviews. I’ve worked here since August and was hired at $15 an hour. I have not heard anything from anyone about how often raises are given. I was told that there was room for growth. I took a massive pay cut from my previous job, expecting that raises would happen more often. I probably would have stayed at my other job having known this now. As a VCC I feel very underpaid for the amount of work I do and all the verbal abuse I receive from callers. All other positions (advisors, PMs, dvms) expect so much from us, but do they know how little we are paid?? The doctors get $100 bonuses for every after hour and weekend appt. What about the VCCs who work every weekend? I feel like there should be nice incentives like that for us, too. Even if we just made time and a half on the weekend day we all have to work. Another thing I dislike is my schedule. It’s like pulling teeth to change your schedule. You have to wait for the “shift bids”, and if you’re new then good luck. All of the good shifts are given to the tenured staff. The scraps are leftover for the newer staff. If you like having consecutive days off, this job is probably not for you. I will say that the culture is ok. People are mostly helpful and nice, with the exception of some.

Working from home with a group of amazing and caring professionals . Difficult and emotional. Pay could be more suitable to the role and should be assessed.

Supportive coworkers
Veterinary Hospice Nurse (Current Employee) - Remote - October 18, 2023
some of the most supportive and empathetic coworkers that I’ve ever had. The ability to stay connected via technology is wonderful, so working remotely isn’t isolating.

Easy job with not great pay
Easy enough job. Good health benefits, poor pay, and micro management. Paid training and good work life balance. But management and poor pay is what left me to leave.

Flexible, Understanding, & Accomodating
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Current Employee) - Remote - October 9, 2023
Great opportunity for those who need flexibility and want to work from home. There is a LOT of micromanaging however for some that is needed so they can work at their best.

Really, our motto should be. At Lap of Love, you don’t just work here, WE are family.
Can the job be tough emotionally? Absolutely, but there are not many jobs out there where you can log off at the end of the day knowing you helped every family that you spoke with and made an impactful difference. This is not your typical call- center job as far as service the client rush through the call and move onto the next. Every call that comes in we are expected and given the opportunity to take our time, speak to the family on a compassionate level and offer our support and a shoulder to lean on during one of the hardest calls they will make. When we end each call, we end it knowing we have left that family in a better place by offering our listening ears, non-judgmental compassion, and a final message to them if you need anything or just someone to talk to please do not hesitate to reach us, we are here for you during this time. Honestly, any less than stellar reviews you may come across please just take them with a grain of salt. Remember, not everyone is cut out to work from home. Just like in a traditional office you are expected to clock in on time and perform your job duties in a quiet distraction free area of your home. It's very simple and breaks and lunch gives you that time to take care of any household needs because you are home.
Pros
Perks: Quarterly bonuses, holiday pay, benefits, weekly pay, internal growth and a loving support system all around you that is just a message, email, or quick phone call away.

Amazing place to work
Other (Current Employee) - Pennsylvania - October 5, 2023
No workplace is perfect...but for me, Lap of Love is pretty close to it. Everyone has different experiences, and I respect that...but my own personal experience is one of kindness, understanding, patience, and very much a family-like environment.

Supportive workplace, fellow staff upbeat, a great group of doctors
Part time veterinarian (Current Employee) - St. Augustine, FL - September 30, 2023
Typical day, 3 + appointments. Excellent families we serve. Support telephone staff are the best and they set the doctors up for success. Most days are very relaxed, a bit of driving but relaxing. Really no stress. However I am not full time, but the training that goes into how Lap Of Love wants their doctors to preform really sets us up for success. Lots of learning opportunities, free CE. I would say mist people are happy because they are so nice and wiling to help if someone reaches out for it. Really meaningful work with a great support group.
Pros
free CE, Bonuses for weekends and holidays. PTO, support.

Vcc
It’s nice to be able to work from home, especially with the nature of the day to day phone calls. However when I was hired I was told that I’d be able to discuss changing my schedule if I’d be interested, well I have reached out several times and now after being there for as long as I have my schedule really cuts into my work life balance with missing important family gatherings and events, and have been passed over multiple times for a new shift after voicing my concerns, so that’s a little frustrating but I’m managing. Other than that management is very caring and supportive.

Jobs at Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice
Great culture
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Former Employee) - Remote - September 7, 2023
Lap of Love (LOV) provides an important service to families during a very difficult time in their lives. It takes caring and compassionate team members at every level to pull off genuinely and Lap of Love has them in spades!! A company with a great culture can be hard to find these days. When you work for LOV you don’t have to worry about toxicity in the workplace.
Pros
Adequate pay, decent benefits, generous PTO
Cons
This job can be monotonous and you are working from home and on you own.

Toxic workplace

No ability to take care of yourself with the terrible schedules and toxic positivity. False promises and ridiculously low pay. No ability to take time off.

Supportive work environment and a job with a purpose
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Current Employee) - Remote - May 18, 2023
Lap of Love is the most supportive, encouraging, and positive work environment I have ever worked in. Everyone is so kind, they set you up for success, and they provide support on a daily basis. For the first time in a very long time I feel like I am exactly where I belong and I have a very clear purpose. Assisting families with the loss of their beloved pets is such a rewarding career. You receive appreciation every single day. I absolutely love working for Lap of Love. Highly recommended.
Pros
Supportive environment, excellent benefits, daily appreciation.
Cons
There are none.

Great Environment
Support Center Employee (Current Employee) - Illinois - May 18, 2023
I love working for Love. What other company sends you gifts during difficult time, allows time away for bereavement of not only human family but your fur family as well. The support felt by management is not comparable to any other place I have worked. The folks at LOV truly live their core values of loving humanity and helping above all else. Not only with the families but the staff as well.

Never been happier!
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Former Employee) - Remote - May 18, 2023
Lap of Love’s mission is incredible and the compassion that is given to clients is also given to employees. I’ve never worked in an environment where you have constant support and such kind management. The job itself is so rewarding and gives a great sense of purpose. Advisors are so understanding and really do everything they can to help you succeed. I’ve never been scolded or yelled at for making a mistake but simply taught how to improve in a constructive way. They also provide so many benefits, many more than any company I’ve worked for, which really shows how much they care for their staff!
Pros
Supportive & kind management, sense of purpose, paid breaks, benefits
Cons
Pay could be more

No love for the VCC
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Current Employee) - Florida - May 10, 2023
Lap of Love is a great company and the Veterinarians and VCC's all do an amazing job. The pets and their families are well respected and well cared for at the appointments. The issue I have is as a VCC in the support center, taking calls from families and making the appointments for the dvms, we do not get any respect. Our Advisors, who should be there to help, often do not respond to our messages, or even give incorrect information when they do. They will then say "we are only human" but if we as a VCC, make any mistakes, we are "verbally coached" or spoken down to about it. It can be very demoralizing to work here because of reasons above, and they speak to you in a very unprofessional manner, calling you "Sweetie or Hun. Lap of Love also recently began charging a fee for weekend apts. so that the veterinarians can get bonuses, which is great for the dvms, but those of us in the support center do not get weekend pay or incentives, yet we must work one weekend day each week. Lap of Love is another company that calls you a family member. That should have been a red flag for me when I was hired.
Pros
PTO is generous, remote work from home position

A great reset
Veterinarian (Former Employee) - Pittsburgh, PA - April 12, 2023
Working for Lap of Love helped me realize I still wanted to be a veterinarian. You are reminded of the importance of the human-animal bond. It was a huge change from general practice and "being my own boss" was gratifying and at times stressful in its own way. Overall the fact that the days were often unpredictable was what led me to a different job. I was made to feel guilty for having a sick kiddo (during peak COVID times). The full time pay/schedule did not allow for much free, relaxing time with a growing family. Call me a millennial 🤷♀️ But for many veterinarians this will be the most rewarding job they may ever have.

Very Rewarding Job!
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Current Employee) - Remote - April 7, 2023
I absolutely love my position here at LOV. It definitely isn't for the weak of heart - every phone call we take has a grieving family on the other end. It is highly emotional dealing with the hardest part of owning a pet. Even though we all work remotely - there is a sense of community. Everyone is incredibly kind and understanding. I have had so much support from my advisor as well as coworkers. The only downside is the pay - I feel the pay vs the amount of work we do and the emotional toll isn't really equal. We can qualify for bonuses and incentives but even with those - the hourly pay is far less than I feel it should be. There have been many wonderful coworkers who have left just because of pay. I hope this raises as inflation happens.
Pros
Sense of purpose. Always able to connect with someone if you need help
Cons
Low pay

Rigid and kind
Veterinary Receptionist (Former Employee) - Remote - March 29, 2023
Very rigid system, but very kind atmosphere. Focus a ton on customer service, which is important. Felt valued from day one, but slowly declined as I continued working.

You are encouraged to be yourself
Veterinary Care Coordinator (Former Employee) - Lutz, FL - March 16, 2023
But you will be fired if being yourself is unprofessional. No clear lines between being an individual and personalizing care for clients to not seem "like a robot reading off a script"
Pros
Paid breaks
Cons
Unprofessional cliquey culture especially in upper management
