: Prep/ Deli worker/ Slicer/ Grill Chef/ Catering, Dobbs Ferry, NY - October 4, 2016
A work day at Lessing's (as far as the account I work for) is a roller coaster ride. It starts off pretty slow and before you know it, there are hundreds of students lining up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are chunks of time (on certain days) where there is a calm before the storm, which we use to prep and clean as much as we can. My co-workers are eccentric and unique to say the least. The hardest part of the job Isn't the work itself, but keeping the team I'm working with in Unison. We have off days due to miscommunications, but all it takes is a verbal reminder that we have a job to do and we can talk it out during our prep stage (which is the most optimal time to talk because we take our breaks one at a time) and resolve the situation. The most enjoyable part of my job is the cooking. I have learned so much about food and cooking techniques from those around me and what I studied on my own time from this job. When I get on the grill, I zone out and start knocking those orders off the ticket post and it genuinely makes me happy to see the look on a customer's face when they see what I made for them.
