Great place to work if the rules were enfored and the kids were not out of control.
Educational Technician III (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MEJune 22, 2019
I enjoyed working with the kids at the school. The school needs some stricter management so the kids will not be out of control. They need to enforce the rules and regulations.

Great coaching staff. Supportive supervisors. The kids were great to work with. The AD was organized and presented clear expectations for the coaches.

Special Education Teacher (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MEApril 1, 2019
Extremely high stress job working with out of control students who have little to no discipline at home (90% of them), and with no support from administration!

Unqualified Management & Administration
Support Staff (Former Employee) –  LHSNovember 1, 2018
Unqualified management treat professional staff like children Blatantly Racist Environment , one teacher assistant was asked to leave the building because he was black (He was wearing ID badge at the time) NBC calls this "teaching while black"
Pros
Pay Benefits
Cons
Zero support from unqualified management, Working with blatant racists, being made to feel guilty taking vacation time earned and deserved, watching your tax dollars being wasted, lice, bedbugs, mice running around your office

Teacher (Former Employee) –  Lewiston, MESeptember 20, 2018
Teachers working hard to do their job in this invasive technological world.
Support of one another. Working to follow managements direction. Working hard to serve the students in helping them to learn with all the outside distractions of the modern world.

Excellent schools to work for. I would recommend this district. Administrators are excellent and fair to both students and professional staff. The parents of students are willing to help in their students education.

Educational Technician III (Former Employee) –  Lewiston, MEJune 26, 2018
I love my coworkers, they were always there to help and laugh at the end of the day. Management was no help- you were required to get your own help and answers. If you had a problem they did nothing to fix it. Buildings are being run by people that educationally have the requirements but in terms of people skills, they are majorly lacking.
Pros
Coworkers
Cons
Administration

Tech work itself is great; the internal politics are horrible
Technical Support Specialist (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MEApril 12, 2018
Working for the I/T Department of Lewiston Public Schools is great when all one is required to deal with is the technology part of the occupation (fixing laptop and desktop computers, installing ceiling-mounted projectors, wiring charging cabinets, getting computer carts ready for deployment, doing help desk tickets, assisting students with hardware and software issues, etc.), but dealing with administrators is a nightmare. When one approaches I/T management for help with legitimate work concerns, little to nothing is ever addressed or done about them. It takes five to six requests for supplies or official documentation to be drawn up before anything is accomplished. It is very frustrating, and often times stressful, to the point where one's anger and resentment can lead to a negative workplace attitude.
Pros
Excellent pay, benefits, time off, and retirement package
Cons
Administrators and management personnel are lacking in their abilities to lead

Challenging work environment
ELL Intake & Assessment Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MEJanuary 23, 2018
Lewiston public schools has a very high poverty and immigrant population which presents significant challenges to meeting the current demands of the Common Core State Standards. Administration is not sensitive to the needs of its staff and does not provide adequate training to meet the needs of staff.
Pros
Great benefits and Pay
Cons
High turnover rate

Central Office-former employee-payroll dept.
Payroll Specialist (Former Employee) –  Lewiston, MENovember 17, 2017
Pay was good. Extremely stressful environment. Management was okay but not great. No back-up for your job. If someone doesn't do their job, you have to pick up the slack so the work gets done. I had great co-workers that always had my back. We helped each other a lot of the time to get the work done.
Pros
Great co-workers
Cons
Hard time to get a break or lunch without disruption. Very seldom able to leave on time

Facilities Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Lewiston, MEMarch 18, 2017
An eclectic group of individuals working in an inner-city public school environment. Facilities are a blend of old and new with all the issues attendant to high use buildings.
Management is most cooperative across the spectrum, with senior leadership support throughout. Wages are marginal for support staff.

ESL Newcomers, Longley Elementary School (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MEMarch 29, 2016
Great school and am very thankful to have such great co-workers and students. I have learned what it is like to work in a culturally diverse school and plan on always working in this type of setting.

Diverse role with a lot of opportunities to work daily
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) –  Lewiston, MENovember 3, 2012
Such a need for substitutes in Lewiston that there is never a day that goes by that you are idle. There is always a call to go in.
There are good days and bad days and if you are uncomfortable in a particular assignment, you can opt out of it on another occasion. You are never required to say "yes" to an assignment.
Pros
steady need for work
Cons
varied assignments are not always favorable

Plenty of work to keep you busy.
Education Technician III (Former Employee) –  Lewiston, MEApril 3, 2012
The HR staff are very helpful and willing to guide you through the process of applying online (which can be tricky). Each school appreciates the hard work the staff does to educate and guide students of all ages. They pay higher than Auburn for per diem work. Sadly, some schools are older, with less "charm" or conveniences, but others are new and clean and really enjoyable to work in. For example, one school has a nice lounge with windows and cooking equipment and free coffee, while another has some tables in the basement with just a deep janitorial sink and toaster oven and vending machines for staff breaks. If you like teaching, being creative, and staying busy, Lewiston education jobs are a great choice, and they need you.
Pros
great staff, teamwork.
Cons
many kids resist learning.
