Gotta be good with kids
Child Center Team Member (Current Employee) –  Humble, TXMarch 25, 2019
Knowledge on how to handle situations and how to always observe/scan is VERY important for this job. Kids aren't always aware of things so we usually have safety breaks to go over the rules and let the kids have a chance to calm themselves from being rowdy and hyperactive. The kids are great for the most part, team members are cool and united. Love the crew here.
Pros
Open hours, flexible schedule, great staff
Cons
Accidents, low income, can be stressful

You are a Number
Group Training Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Tulsa, OKMarch 24, 2019
Life Time Fitness is the healthy way of life company for everyone except the people who work there. It is a highly-competitive, stressful environment. They do not develop leaders; they hire "leaders" based solely on their previous performance (ability to sell). Because of this, the employees who choose to work there suffer. Although the compensation is good, the requirements don't match the compensation. If you are in the training or sales department, you only get paid commission, but you're required to go to 3+ hour long meetings PER WEEK, and clean equipment; (both of which you do not get paid for). They claim to care about you, but they spend the majority of their overly-redundant meetings trying to convince you that you owe them for allowing you to work there. The bottom line is their priority; or as they put it, "we are a performance-based company."

If you want to make good money by working 50+ hours per week (including your "off days" on closeout), while constantly being pressured to hit an arbitrary goal, playing politics, and only getting email shoutouts for dedicating your life to the company, then this is the place for you!

If you want to be appreciated (as a human being, not as a dollar sign), work for a company who actually lives out their mission statement, work for great leaders who care about you and your wellbeing, and grow as a leader (not as a manipulator), then this place is NOT for you!

Straight forward with a well balanced road map to success on the job. Much gratitude to management for this experience. Relaxing and clean workplace so not much was hard about the job. I enjoyed everything about Lifetime Fitness...I still do.

You will be overworked and drained out
Kids team member, Bday party host & Camp counselor (Current Employee) –  Commerce, MIMarch 20, 2019
During my time working here I barely received the breaks I wa supposed to get and some days I would work 12 hour shifts moving from childcenter to birthday party’s you will also have your phone getting blown up by the manager and your coworkers asking if you can come in and help out. And even if you do everything a supervisor does your manager won’t let you be supevisor
Pros
Free member and discounts on salon personal training and food
Cons
Barely get breaks, stressful environment always out of ratio an you will be overworked

LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPIST (Current Employee) –  Beachwood, OHMarch 20, 2019
Able to do several modalities with quality products to use and sell. Quite a zen atmosphere, while able to be competitive in a sales type setting, being able to increase your income since you are basically working on commission.

Having a great time
Team Member (Former Employee) –  Sugar Land, TXMarch 18, 2019
Every day was very fast but was also fun. I learned how to work efficiently at a faster pace. The managemnt was great. They knew when to relax and when to work hard. The culure was amazing, everyone seemed nice. The hardest part was when it was rush hour and a bunch of people came at once. The most enjoyable part was the people that i worked with.

Terrible
Life Cafe General Manager (Current Employee) –  Rochester Hills, MIMarch 17, 2019
The company talks a good game about caring for its staff, but that's just telling you what you want to hear. Pay levels for anything but management is a joke, corporate culture is very high-school jock bro, and the demands we make of the staff is monstrously more than what their pay levels warrant. Steer clear.

Best place for a career
Personal Trainer (Current Employee) –  Berkeley Heights, NJMarch 14, 2019
I am so excited and happy to work for Life Time. The job is fun, fast-paced, competitive, and rewarding!

The members are awesome, you meet so many new people to engage with and help. The team is especially great, they care about each other, help each other grow, and really want everyone to be successful.

The company is growing rapidly, while there might be extra wiggle room for team member perks, if you are looking for a career and growth, you can't beat it!

Life Time cares about your development, every week you have a 1:1 with your assistant to work on you personally and professionally. Additionally, there are tons of resources they provide to better yourself.

I highly recommend Life Time and the training team!

Growth, Pay, Resources

Poorly run company, but some benefits.
Lifeguard (Former Employee) –  South Jordan, UTMarch 14, 2019
Worked in aquatics:
-Management never scheduled staff accordingly, so there was always only one lifeguard each shift to run a huge indoor pool by themselves, which was really stressful, especially in the case of an emergency.
-Lifeguards would be on stand for 4+ hours at a time, with no break or rotation, which is actually very stressful and tiring on the eyes.
-I was reliable employee, but since a lot of other lifeguards were not and didn't show up for their shifts, I ended up having to drop my personal plans a lot to cover their shifts.
-The pay was really terrible, even if you are very overqualified.
-If you got sick or had a medical/family emergency, and couldn't find someone to cover your shift, you got written up, and you only get 2 write ups before you are terminated.
Maybe it was just that department that wasn't great, but it seemed like a lot of people that worked there didn't seem happy. On the plus side, you do get a free membership if you are an employee, and discounts on things like spa treatments, and classes. And sometimes you work with nice co-workers.
Pros
Discounts, free membership, co-workers.
Cons
Understaffed, low wages, poor management, no breaks, work/life balance, poor hours.

What they're doing is criminal
Summer Camp Counselor (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILMarch 9, 2019
This job is A LOT of work and we were heavily underpayed. My supervisor had worked there for 2 years and was just out of high school. There was zero organization, hardly any time outside, and so much scrutinizing. We would get yelled at daily. This is not a place for fun. It's disciplinary to both counselors and campers. The campers HATE IT. Lifetime is so cheap too and only people on the inner circle (aka friends with the very young management) would get promoted and then sit on their butts all day while everyone else worked for 8$ an hour. No lunch break, didn't pay overtime, overworked minors, this place is criminal.
