If you were in charge, what would you do to make Lifespace Communities a better place to work?
I would send new management hires undercover to work at some of the various jobs such as nurses, aides, maintenance,'housekeepers, and food service. This is the heart and soul of your company, let them get the true experience of what your company is about, not the picture you paint. Get a dose of the realities of the situations you have. Real On The Job Training!
I feel a bit ashamed because it was a great place to work when I started. I worked there for seventeen years and after the last few after they became Lifespace I simply was there clinging on to a paycheck and could no longer could be a human being. They are trying to make robots out of people. They say follow me, do what I say not what I do. When I resigned and left my vacation pay and bonus for Christmas from the residents behind, I was relieved! I felt like I flushed the toilet leaving the waste behind me.
It was the fact that I spend my time there building relationships with my residents and co-workers and Lifspace came in and said I can't do that.. They spend a lot of time taking away the dignity of the workers! The one thing that stood out the most to me is how smoothly things ran when all these department heads, managers and supervisors were not there! That should in itself point to the problems cause.A Company stands on the shoulders of it's workers. Somehow Lifespace got it backwards!
What advice would you give the CEO of Lifespace Communities about how to improve it?
My advice to CEO is to be my self willing to work as a team and do my best just to see. My company grow successfully ..
The work environment is very difficult. Residents and their families are often very difficult to deal with. In addition you are working with on site management and the home office. Unless you are able to deal in a high stress environment dont work here.
