A good company to work for. Typical retail management but with a ministry mindset of serving customers first and foremost. Culture was positive and upbeat and management was usually encouraging, professional, and supportive.

A mostly typical customer service retail job. Can get stressful at times. They do offer great benefits for full time. Corporate demands can get a little overwhelming.

Great place to work
Manager (Current Employee) –  Savannah, GAMarch 15, 2019
Lifeway has been a great place to work. The benefits and salary are comparable with the current market. All the Supervisors I have had through the years have always been understanding and helpful in my work and advancement in the company.

Needs more Inclusion
Retail Associate (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMarch 11, 2019
For this to be a Christian bookstore the are really against charismatic and Pentecostal Christians. They limit their products to predominately White Southern Baptist writers and those that agree with SBC (Southern Baptist Church) Theology. While I do understand they have a right as an organization to sell whatever they want I personally would encourage them to either change their name or start embracing Christian writers from all mainline denominations.

Working at Lifeway
Sales Associate/Cashier (Former Employee) –  El Paso, TXMarch 7, 2019
Was an incredible job, hours were very flexible. Assistant manager was very kind and fellow employees treat you like family. Work pace is good, and customers are generally kind. Previous manager was extremely micromanaging. It made working hard, and she would give you tasks even if you had not finished previous ones. The management style under her was disorganized, however they will be receiving a new manager soon. Highly recommend to work there.
Pros
Flexible Schedule
Cons
Extreme micro management by last manager

Cannot Recommend
editor (Former Employee) –  Nashville, TNFebruary 28, 2019
Employee morale is at an all time low. Workloads have doubled for many employees due to cut positions, even though products are not cut. Editorial teams are much smaller. You really need to know and trust your team members when you have to produce so much material. Working away from the office is a plus, especially with the location of the new HQ—it's not in a easy location to get to.
Management expects a lot from employees—even beyond training or comfort. Making sales calls to multitudes of churches was required of employees, in addition to doubled work loads.
The new building is full of sweet perks, but the open office/cubicle workspace is difficult. Office temperatures and lighting are problematic—too many differences of opinion of what those should be. The reality is, very few are pleased with overhead lighting. Some work areas are extremely cold while others are warm.
There are some pluses to that kind of work space. Employees work hard. Multiple departments are housed on the same floors, which sometimes makes it difficult to celebrate work milestones due to not wanting to disturb other departments. Those celebrations have to be relocated to another part of the building or off site.
Pros
Free video games, fancy elevators, free parking
Cons
toxic work environment, no chance for advancement (especially for women), always wondering when your job will be deleted

Key Holder/Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  TexasFebruary 25, 2019
Good company to work for...not paid accordingly. Corporate run and sometimes you didn't feel like they truly through decisions made for the stores. Expected huge changes to happen quickly while still helping customers and getting day to day operations done. Loved the people I worked with and opportunity to bless customers.
Pros
Great work environment

Not paid well enough

Wonderful ministry driven company
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Lubbock, TXJanuary 14, 2019
Since it is a faith based company, they are closed on Sundays. Not only does the company offer great benefits and paid time off to employees, but they also offer opportunities to get involved in the community by participating in company sponsored missions trips and other outreach programs. They also start every day with prayer and devotionals and encourage employees to pray with others as opportunities present themselves. I couldn't think of a better place to work. Given the opportunity, I would go back there full time.
Pros
Great benefits, competitive pay and paid time off. Encouraging atmosphere.

Sales (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHJanuary 12, 2019
It has been some time since I worked at LifeWay. I visit the store often now. It is an unusual environment in the product selling world. There were so many opportunities to assist customers in finding the material they needed as well as sharing Christian experiences.
Pros
Serving people with a product as well as a testimony.

It is different from when I first started working at LifeWay and how things changed when there were changes made in the corporate office. There were some things I wish LifeWay would have kept, but this job isn't something I am looking to stay long term.
