Always excited to go to work!- Evergreen
Assistant Teacher/Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - Evergreen - August 7, 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI thoroughly enjoyed working at Little Jewels, although it was much shorter than I wished. The children become your family, and it's wonderful getting the opportunity to work with all different age groups. I feel like it could be managed better, but due to staff shortages I do believe they're doing everything they can to keep things running smoothly. Every room is VERY different, in how the teacher runs the class, expectations, cleanliness, etc. Lastly, be prepared for much of your time cleaning, especially if you are a closer. All in all, I loved my job and the flexibility I was given around my schedule!

Poor management and pay
Assistant Teacher (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - March 29, 2022
I loved getting to know the families and children. Other teachers were great to work with but management is poor. There is a lack of communication from directors to staff. Expectations are very high especially compared to pay and there is no room for advancement. There is a very high staff turnover rate.

Little Jewels - Evergreen
Adminstrative Assistant (Current Employee) - Normal, IL - January 25, 2022
I love my job! It is so much fun to come to work everyday and see all the kids and their smiling faces. It has been really nice getting to know some families too since I'm not from this area. My coworkers and the leadership staff are AMAZING!!

Lead Teacher (Current Employee) - Bloomington, IL - January 18, 2022
I love working here. Everyone is so nice, helpful and the families are great! Very clean and organized. I love the hours and the communication with management. Definitely would recommend little jewels to anyone looking for a job within a preschool setting.

Williamsburg Edition
Asst. Teacher (Former Employee) - 210 N Williamsburg - December 7, 2020
The staff are not welcoming, the talk badly about the supervisor. The companies budget is hurting. They are only retaining employees for 30 days before cutting them from the payroll. On my second week as a hire I was receiving emails about impending budget cuts only to be fired on my 30th day for the same reason. If you are looking for a consistent job that can support you. This is not the job. The schedules are random and unorganized. They are unable to pay employees past 30 days. The staff is not welcoming and very clique like.

Loved my job, but watch out.
Assistant Teacher/Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IL - July 15, 2020
Oakland edition:
If you're thinking about working here, definitely read this first.
I have worked at LJLC for about 4 years now, off and on in between semesters out of state eventually. That was one great benefit of the job-- I could come back in the summers. I loved my children more than I love to breathe and I had so much fun watching them grow up. The place is generally clean and if you do your job the way you're asked, it's really fun.
HOWEVER, I had some major issues (and I'd never complain unless it's necessary):
1. CHECK. YOUR. PAYCOM. When I switched statuses (from part-time to sub, and etc), they did not change my status and increase my pay like they should have. TWICE. They did not change my status to lead when I took a temporary position and had to backpay me several hundred dollars after I confronted them, which was no accident.
2. Assert yourself. You either have to have been there longer than the management, or have a very bossy, loud personality in order for the directors to not nit-pick you. Myself and a couple others had to address this issue with higher-ups. The directors' attitudes completely change around different people-- they were always nice to the teachers that they were afraid of. They also are not afraid to talk about you behind your back to your coworkers that they want to like them, but don't let it get to you.
3. Ignore the stigma. The directors are not very open-minded and kind to young college students that have this just as a temporary starting job. I NEVER went waving that in anyones face, but that did not stop the stigma. They are -
Pros
Experiences, structure, children
Cons
Management, attitudes, schedules

Amazing
Lead Teacher/Assistant Teacher (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IL - February 20, 2020
There was amazing staff and the kids are good. Management back then was good as well. I did have some trouble with my schedule towards the end. But overall ok.

I thought it was better at first
Substitute Assistant Teacher (Current Employee) - Bloomington, IL - December 6, 2019
Coworkers are mostly friendly and encouraging, but forming more positive and mutually respectful work relationships becomes difficult when experiences and knowledge are ignored.

Wonderful place to work and an amazing place to bring your child.
Lead Preschool Teacher (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - December 4, 2019
I was lucky enough to get the chance to send my children to the same place I worked for the first few years of their lives. The atmosphere is clean and safe and the teachers were wonderful to work with along with seeing them teach my children.

Priority
Assistant Daycare Teacher up (Current Employee) - Bloomington, IL - December 1, 2019
The priority is of course the care of the children, but employee needs are not. Pay is very low in comparison with what they require. You must have a certain level of education, but you are not paid accordingly. Most of the coworkers are nice, but there are several that are friends with the management. Definitely favoritism there.

Nice people, bad management
Teacher-Infant Rooms (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IL - November 13, 2019
Most employees were a joy to work with. The children were great. The directors were awful though. They terminated employees based on word of mouth from other employees and are not professional about it in any way. Also, would terminate employees without any reason given. I would not recommend working there.

Terrible Place to Work
Assistant Teacher (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IL - October 28, 2019
I worked at a Little Jewels location for a few months, I get little to no training. They expect you to clean and keep an eye on children at the same time. This job is WAY too demanding for 8.65 an hour! If you do something wrong, you get yelled at by the supervisors and not shown what you did wrong.

Amazing place to work
Assistant Teacher (Current Employee) - Bloomington, IL - May 20, 2018
Everyone is a team player. Ask for help and people are more than happy to assist and teach you. Best place I have ever worked. Even the parents are nice and love hearing about their child's day.

Great teachers and kids, but poor management
Teacher (Former Employee) - Illinois - May 1, 2018
The management at Little Jewels is inadequate. I enjoy the children in all the classrooms. There are many teachers that are unqualified or don't do their jobs correctly.
Pros
friendly teachers and great kids
Cons
poor management

Maintenance
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - April 25, 2018
I worked as the maintenance/janitor as little jewels for a few months. The hours were really nice for me, I worked from 6:30am until noon Monday-Friday. There was no way to move up but the pay was good and all the teachers were cool, and the kids are very cute. I worked on my own schedule and wasn't really bothered as long as I got my work done, except for accidents of course.

Class Project
Market Researcher (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - January 18, 2018
This was a class project for Marketing Research at Illinois State University. This was not an actual job experience. However we did have to present findings in front of board members.

Must love children
Lead Teacher (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - January 15, 2018
This is a daycare facility so you must love children. You should be able to work with all age groups and be prepared to clean, clean, clean. You have to make sure your room is spotless every time you leave the room, even if your just going to snack or lunch. You are expected to participate in all of the extra activities that the owner thinks are great for business, but you are NOT PAID to show up for these events, if you don't show up though it gets deducted from your raise at the end of the Year. This used to be an amazing place to work now It's no different from any other center that treats their teachers like they are easy to replace. policies don't apply to everyone, they change depending on the mood of the director. Their is no follow thru with any issues you may have, and nobody appreciates your hard work and effort.
Pros
free lunch
Cons
health care is ridiculously expensive.

The children were a joy to work with.
It was a fun place to work and the Owner made you feel special and was always available to talk to and she really cares about her LJLC Family!
Pros
Great place to work
Cons
Substitute Teachers should make the same hourly rate as the regular Teachers in order to keep them.
