I had been hired as a quasi employee with a full-time job working 8:30 AM / PST to 5:00 PM /PST, Sunday to Thursday. I also worked additional work hours as needed on weekly basis.
My job was a combination of Over-The-Phone and Video Remote Interpretation via the LINC DEI system. I had been doing this Over-The-Phone interpretation from April 2014 to March 2016 and the combination of OTP and LINC DEI from March 2016 until October 2017.
I have had a good balance of work and private life. The job was between relaxing and quick pacing. There were no paid-holidays, no paid vacations, only sick-leaves by labor law. I was paid $15.00 per hour with some extra compensation for Federal, State Agencies Interpretation and some overtime works. I had paid for my own Health Insurance via the Minimum Essential Coverage sponsored by the company; I had three percent Employer's Contribution toward the 401K. Nothing else.
I have worked on my own, at home with a very intrusive, interference of the so-called SLS (Senior Language Specialist) once every month for performance evaluation and from time to time dropping in on the phone for observations. There were a lot of noises, statics, echoes making the interpretation much harder each time the SLS making her round. The management took the advises of the SLS.
The company has few thousands of workers both quasi employees and contractors; there was no Union, no representative for any group of employees and contractors. It has been a very closed niche network. There has been a Chatter for employees' communication and sharing experience; but, it was a trap for anyone voicing his/her opinions about the work, the pay and the company.
On the scale from one to ten on the overall quality-wise of the company, it is between 5 to 7, the most.
