I applied in June of 2018. I did not receive an e-mail requesting an interview until mid-August. I just received a job offer on September 10th. With each job opening, the need, time frame, etc is different. It could take one day to hear back if they are in a rush or over two months (like me) if the need is not incredibly urgent. Don't listen to the people saying you should hear back ASAP. That is not always the case. There are many, many factors involved. So don't be discouraged if you haven't heard back yet. There is no exact time frame in which you can be sure you will not receive an interview.

Yes for initial hire. Other than that, they won't spend the money. If they are randomly drug testing you, it's because they are trying to get rid of you.
