The building we worked at was amazing. It was a great team atmosphere and providing services to clients who appreciated the help was a very rewarding feeling.

Strong employee connection with little confidence in management. Very reactionary. Not willing to change. Management pretends to care about staff concerns.

Work hard receive more work and no gratitude for your work. Great place to start your career not a great place for having company morale. Management will have a set of skill but can not connect you with the ability to grow.

While the work is deeply fulfilling, the staff turnover rate is high. It is not uncommon for someone to last 3 years and be considered long-tenured. Beyond three years is considered exceptional.

There are great people working tirelessly and feverishly to ensure LAHSA is doing all it can. They work with heart, determination and a spirit of teamwork. LAHSA has been in a transition for a time. Leadership could stand to listen to those on the front lines a bit more.

Overall working there is nice and the coworkers are great people. But there has been changes in management that has made several people in our team to look for other jobs.

The hardest part for me working here is that management seems be out of touch with reality. Blames high turnover to the low unemployment rates, requests data to fit their narrative, and work get shoved onto teams when they don't have the resources to finish them on time.

One good side is that if you keep your head down and don't make noise, you will have a job for a long time. Also, any skills you wish to learn may be implemented if you show initiative.
Pros
Open to learning skills for workers as long as you show initiative
Cons
Poor pay, high turnover, management isn't the best

There are some good and bad things with working for LAHSA. The work is rough, you see horrible stories daily. The management is chaotic at best. They are inconsistent with enforcement of policies. Currently they have a huge morale concern with the fact that they are paying brand new hires more than staff that have been with the company for an extended period of time. The management also creates a lot of significant barriers in being able to effectively work, even when they are provided alternate solutions by staff. Oh, and drama galore.

Upside, the pay is solid, especially if you don't have an impressive resume. Benefits are good enough. Good amount of paid time off. Lots of recognized holidays.
Pros
Pay. PTO. Holidays. Benefits.
Cons
Management. Poor training. Stressful environment. Demoralizing condition.

This job gets you very involved into the community. You learn a lot about poverty while working and you find sources to help the needy. This type of Admin work is exciting while knowing you are working for a good cause.

Its a great organization that has its ups and downs. The organization is currently trying to expand which means more people more problems. Most people only stay a year and go.

There are some compassionate people that work there however, they have a "friends and family plan", and if you're not part of that plan or should I say "clique" your pay will be low and your growth will be stunted. I have NEVER seen a government entity with such a vast amount of nepotism!
Pros
Paid parking or $145 towards commuting
Cons
Vast Nepotism

The manager don't know how to manage. There is a lot of work and not enough people. Salary is low for the work that is being done. Management sit in their office all day and laugh with each other while the monitors are out in the field doing the real work. The monitoring and compliance departments have too many supervisors that don't know how to do their job and all they do is kiss the program and fiscal manager butts all day. LAHSA really needs to look into why there is a high turn over and fix that problem. This is the worst job I have ever had. The building is in horrible condition. I would never recommend anyone to work here. I thought that if I give it a year it would get better. I been working in the Monitoring and compliance department for almost two years and nothing has gotten better. I and looking to leave ASAP!!!!
Pros
None
Cons
Management, Low pay, Fiscal & Program manager don't help, Supervisor kiss manager butt, Managers & supervisor play favorits, Heavy workload and management dont care, Some of the employees have no work ethic, Management let some people come into the office when ever then they want, to many process that leads to nothing

LAHSA has too many inexperienced people in leadership positions. With this inexperienced management comes a lack of solid leadership, lack of credence to inner-department, frivolous spending, and cutthroat management.
Pros

Cons
Bad management

Politics are extremely sensitive. Monitoring of programs are too fluid. Millions wasted and agency having a difficult time monitoring or following through with compliance.
Pros
Tons of room to learn a variety of aspects of homelessness
Cons
That you have to sit there and play politics, and turn your cheek to mishandling of funds, and agencies having the ability to run homelessness services according to a 6 month support limit.
