Drafter/Designer (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXJuly 9, 2018
You are looked down on from the engineers unless your part of the "good ole boys" buddy system. you don't learn anything there at all. I had no ambition to stay there.

Good, solid company. Good pay, good people to work with. Benefits are good; holiday and vacation pay provided. Leadership wanders from stated mission at times.

Bad Management
Manager (Former Employee) –  LCRAMay 23, 2018
As a manager I saw alot of misuse of money, materials and people. If you showed any type of dislike about it you become the target. I was best to keep your mouth shut and go with the flow or risk losing your job. People are given jobs they had no business getting and not even knowing what to do. Alot of on the job training but no formal or technical training for people who needed to do a safer and better job. Alot of safety polices broken just to get the job done. Management would look the other way . Wasn't a very good place to work.
Pros
Alot of nice people and friends
Cons
Nice guys get stepped on and passed by.

Love working for LCRA
Administrative Assistant/Receptionist (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXApril 4, 2018
I worked for LCRA for 31 years at three different areas and loved them all. Good people, we were just one happy family. Management changes is what made things not to be as good as it was in the first 30 years.
Pros
Good Benefits
Cons
Management can sometimes get top heavy.

Site Engineer (Former Employee) –  Fayetteville, TXJanuary 7, 2018
It appeared that the direct employees of LCRA had comfortable and secure positions which only occasionally became demanding in terms of hours and effort.

Slow moving agency culture
HR Specialist (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXNovember 17, 2017
LCRA is a great place to work, if you can tolerate the pace of a state-created authority. Politics impact the workplace greatly and lead to frequent reorgs (LCRA = Let's Consider Reorganizing Again). Despite this, it is genuinely a good place to work. People are mostly open and cooperative. Most are devoted to their work and LCRA's critical mission. Change is slow, so it's not the place for those seeking a rapid environment. But, certain operations are breaking new and exciting ground.
Pros
Great benefits and important mission
Cons
Political organization - serves at will of legislature and governor

Lack of long-range goals
Software Asset Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXOctober 25, 2017
Management did not have a view of long-term retention of employees; contractors were hired without possibility of retention into permanent positions, and then contracts not renewed.

there is a lot there to offer an employee.
Customer Care, Public Relations, Public Safety (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXAugust 27, 2017
They have a lot of temporary workers. They minimize the full-time employees this way. Contract workers do not receive benefits and are denied growth opportunities. Management is smug. HR sent me training links incidentally I was reprimanded by my supervisor for taking the training on line that was sent. I was trying to be a diligent and dedicated employee. It was constant micromanagement and criticism with no growth or training offered.

Product, fun family community environment
Accounting (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXJune 19, 2017
Our company provides opportunities for growth through promotion programs, education assistance. People work hard but are also encouraged by management to have a work life balance. The most enjoyable part of the job beside performing my daily work tasks is giving back to the communities we serve. Our executive management encourages and rewards employees efforts to volunteer in the communities we service.
Pros
Family oriented, supportive, promotion opportunities.
Cons
No cons in my opinion.

Flexible with work hours. Meaningful work relationships and projects. Extremely low moral in my department RIFs were handled poorly due to unprofessional and under-trained middle managers.
Pros
Flexible work hours, Meaningful work relationships and projects
Cons
Underqualified middle managers, below market compensation, except for the ones at the top!
